hey this might be a really dumb question, but i'm curious and want to ask anyway
is it possible for a system to temporarily form to help deal with an event, and after control of the event has been gained, for the system to disappear almost entirely? i'm sorry if this is stupid and/or offensive /gen
There's no stupid or offensive questions when asked in good faith, anon. It's better to be educated than confused!
That being said, systems can definitely go dormant and/or integrate or just go quiet after the event that caused them to happen is over/dealt with. We're not too sure how common it is, but we've seen it happen multiple times and for some people, it's a normal part of how they function.
Do you know any blogs or websites specifically for helping people find their species/identities?
We had a look and didn't find much more than the basic quizzes that don't help very much most of the time. I'm going to post this into a few tags to see if anyone else has any ideas.
The most I can recommend is posting here on Tumblr or somewhere else about your experiences and seeing what people think. Maybe start up a journal of your experiences and keep track that way too--it might be useful in the future.
Hey so I'm new to this type of stuff so sorry if I say anything wrong. But I'm trying to figure out what I am. I have some ocs of mine that I've been able to communicate with recently. I also have been noticing that I feel like something else. I was talking with my ocs recently and they told me I was void (my main oc). But what am I can't figure this out. (Also again I'm sorry if I mispronounced something or I said something incorrect)
If you feel as if you might be your OC or you have a connection there you can't explain, I feel as if this post might help you figure out what label would fit you most. There's a possibility your OCs see you as Void because they're your main OC, but there's also a possibility that there's something else there.
Onto the OCs, you could be plural. That basically means you share your body with multiple people (usually referred to as headmates). You can become plural in a lot of ways, some intentional and some not.
You might have accidentally made tulpas (created headmates) if you gave your OCs a lot of attention before they started talking to you--this is fairly common. This may help with learning about tulpas and such.
There's also a possibility you accidentally soulbonded. Soulbondinghelp has some information on their blog that may be of use.
i was wondering if you could list and maybe explain the categories that soulbonds could fit into? for example, i've seen the term "day-tripper" used quite a bit, yet it remains unexplained by those that i've seen use it... i just want to learn more as a soulbonder myself! thank you~
Sure!
Telephone Bonds/Long Distance Soulbonds: Soulbonds that can’t travel through worlds. They stay in their world, you stay in yours, and you can communicate with them through telepathy or other means.
Day-Trippers: Soulbonds that can come and leave this world as they please. They can hop from this world back to theirs and back to here, or even go somewhere else.
Permanent Residents: Soulbonds that have ended up in this world and can’t leave, or choose to stay here.
Alterhuman: Those who hold an identity that is not strictly (or not at all) human, doesn’t fit the normative human identity while still remaining human, or is human plus something else.
Welcome to Ask An Alterhuman! We’re a blog dedicated to answering questions about alterhumanity of all kinds! Whether you’re alterhuman and looking for advice, or a human wondering what something means, this ask blog is open to all!
We include anyone who identifies as alterhuman or who falls under the alterhuman umbrella. Otherkin, otherhearteds, plural systems, therians, vampires, godshards, otherlinkers and anyone else!
More under the readmore!
A bit about us:
We go by Interstellar collectively.
They/it generally works for us!
Our blog is @interstellarsystem and we also run @alterhuman-culture-is!
We have over 400 people in our system, most of which are fictives.
We have so many different people with different identities in our brain. There are so many creatures.
We write individual names and pronouns of those who respond to asks at the bottom of them! If you have asks for specific system members, someone with a specific identity, or you want to ask for community feedback instead of just an answer from us, feel free to specify that!
General blog info:
Community feedback is always welcome unless the asker specifies they don’t want that.
We’d like asks to remain respectful, hate will be deleted unless there are misconceptions we can correct that we feel would be beneficial for others to read.
On that same sort of note, discrimination based on identity or race or anything else will not be tolerated.
Non-alterhumans can ask questions!
If we end up getting something wrong, we’re definitely open to being corrected! In fact, please correct us if we say something that isn’t true. We want to make this blog as helpful as possible, and sometimes due to being such a large system, memories and ideas slip through the gaps.
Trigger Warning Tags are linked here. Warning tags will also be tagged with #tw if any other trigger tags are needed.
How can you have traumagenic and endogenic alters in the same system? How does an alter come out of nowhere?
First of all, as far as I’m aware, “alter” is a DID/OSDD only term. We tend to use “headmate”, but you can also use “systemmate” and “system member”. I’m not sure if there’s other terms for “headmate” aside from that, but, if someone wants to add on that’s perfectly fine.
There are multiple ways to have traumagenic and endogenic alters in one system (called a mixed origin system), but it really depends on the beliefs of the system members themselves.
Some common explanations for endogenic systemmates are:
- You were born plural/grew to be plural for an unknown reason.
- You grew to be plural/are plural as a type of neurodivergency or something else.
- You created headmates through soulbonding or tulpamancy.
- Another entity entered your body as a headmate.
Some common explanations for traumagenic systemmates are:
- Trauma splits.
- The universe/a god/something else deciding you need help and placing an entity in your body as a headmate.
- An entity itself deciding you need help and inserting itself into your body as a headmate.
There’s probably more I’ve forgotten, so please add on if you'd like. You can have a mix of any of these in your system, and that’s how you can have both endogenic and traumagenic headmates in one system.
Other than that, “How can an alter come out of nowhere?”. An alter could come seemingly out of nowhere if your trauma is repressed. But also answering this question as if you said “headmate” instead--headmates can come out of nowhere from:
- Walking in. (Usually a spiritual thing.)
- Soulbonding you. (Also called reverse soulbonding.)
- Something, either the entity itself or a higher power deciding to place an entity in your head for a variety of reasons.
- Accidental tulpas can seemingly come from nowhere.
Once again, if I forgot something, feel free to add on!
i was going to ask what flickerers, starseeds, and godshards were but then saw the "fucktive" tag and now im really curious, what does that mean????
You were going to ask about flickerers, starseeds and godshards too, so I’ll answer everything in this post and you can send follow-up questions if you’re still confused!
A fucktive (or fcktive) is a mix of a fictive and a factive. An example of this would be an actor who plays themselves in a movie, such as Michael Jordan in Space Jam!
A flickerer is a person who experiences flickers (fictionflickers, animalflickers, etc). A flicker is an identity which is temporarily taken on, usually after consuming media which the identity stems from. This usually ends shortly after related media has stopped being consumed.
A starseed is someone who believes they originated from another world, dimension, or planet and is currently living as a human. Many claim they’re here to save/better/transform humanity, though explanations vary. I haven’t personally spoken to many starseeds, so if any would like to add on to this post, please do!
A godshard is someone who considers themself to be an independent part or shard of a still extant god. Once again, I haven’t spoken to many godshards, so if you’d like to add on with any more information, go ahead!
Is it abnormal, or as some say, "fluffy", to have essentially your past selves in the headspace? Along with this, there are a few instances of individuals who are also from those lives, however have said they are simply the memories of those individuals (rather than soulbonds). Is there a term for this?
Sorry we got to this so late!
I really don’t believe this to be fluffy or anything like that, though there might be a few people who say otherwise, and I can definitely see why people would be sceptical. I’ve actually experienced something similar myself though, where a kintype of mine “split off” from me and became a separate entity in my head.
I believe the term for this would be kinform, or at least, it’s the closest term I can find! I checked to find the coining post but it seems to have been deleted.
