I wanted to ask a question regarding the information about the Arkan Sonney: where did you find this information on the physical description of this beast? Would you kindly share these references with me? Finding information about it isn't easy, and I would love to know more about it. Thank you

My primary source on the Arkan Sonney was Katherine Briggs's An Encyclopedia of Fairies. The Wikipedia entry on the Arkan Sonney has a number of good sources, including a supposed sighting in the Manx Scrapbook

More faeries. I have a previous faerie character, Ginch, who made shoes for Alf and Jacky. They’re the plain leather strips that I draw on their feet. I think I’d like to make that a trend among faerie folk.  Obviously they’re enchanted, so they work incredibly well despite appearances.

[A Manx fairy creature, the arkan sonney was originally described as a white pig, but the name is used to refer to hedgehogs in the modern day, which is cute. It’s said to be good luck to see one, namely that you’ll always have a silver coin on hand if you do, which inspired their boon, bane and general connection to silver in the flavor text. I could see a 1st level module centered around finding one of these guys and convincing it to help the party fight a werewolf plaguing the community.]

Arkan Sonney CR ½ NG Fey This tiny creature appears to be a white hedgehog with butterfly wings and tiny hoofed digits. It flitters about playfully, its spines glinting with silver.

An arkan sonney is a benevolent fey creature with aspects of hedgehogs and pigs. They live in hedgerows and hills, and feed primarily on poisonous plants and venomous animals. A lack of toads, vipers and spiders may be the only sign of an arkan sonney’s presence, as they are shy of humans and try to remain hidden. They may allow themselves to be sought out by children or kind souls, and play games with them such as hide-and-seek.

The reason an arkan sonney is so nervous around humans has much to do with its ties to silver. Silver infuses their quills and drips from their saliva, and killing and burning an arkan sonney will yield fully half of its weight in silver. Most arkan sonneys are between ten and twenty pounds as an adult. This is something of killing a golden goose, however, as an arkan sonney can silver weapons while alive (useful for fighting lycanthropes and devils) and give a blessing of silver to those it favors.

Arkan Sonney Boons and Banes (CL 2nd, DC 12) An arkan sonney is a kind soul, and may reward a child or someone in poverty with a blessing of endless silver, on the condition that they keep it a secret and do good deeds. If someone tries to force them to give this blessing, they give their bane instead. Boon: You gain a single silver piece every day. This silver piece appears in a shoe, pocket, purse, or other item kept on your possession or nearby every midnight. This boon is permanent, unless the creature gains an evil alignment, in which case it ceases. Bane: One gold coin in your possession turns into a silver piece every day. This coin must be in your pocket, purse, or otherwise in your direct possession or immediate belongings, and the transformation occurs at midnight. This bane is permanent until removed.

HABITAT: 

Forests, especially ones plentiful with food they can eat, and other small fae such as gnomes.

OVERVIEW: 

This pig-like fae is small in its true form, rarely growing to be more than ten pounds. Using glamours, they are able to appear human-like, and may enjoy integrating themselves with human society. Arkan sonneys survive on a diet made up entirely of poisonous plants and venomous animals, meaning a lack of toads, spiders, and vipers in an area may alert someone to the presence of an arkan sonney living nearby. They are commonly associated with luck, which they are able to manipulate freely. 

Each arkan sonney has their own internal “reservoir” of luck, which they pull from and add to. Because they cannot generate luck on their own, they often steal it from those around them, most commonly targeting humans. Through physical touch, arkan sonneys are able to subtly siphon good fortune from an individual and add it to their own reservoir. In doing so, the arkan sonney ensures that they themselves will be met with good fortune. This often comes in the form of good things happening to the arkan sonney with very little effort on their part.

Because they are not able to generate luck on their own, arkan sonneys must keep a gauge on their internal reservoir and ensure it doesn’t get too low. Each “good” event that occurs to them will use up a portion of the luck they have stored away. In addition to this, they can share luck with those around them through a process similar to the siphoning. Some may choose to do this willingly, but it is possible to force an arkan sonney to share some of their luck as well. If a person challenges an arkan sonney to any sort of game and wins, the arkan sonney is compelled to share their luck. This typically will not inspire ill-will from the arkan sonney in question, as this fae tends to thoroughly enjoy games and competitions. They are especially fond of hide-and-seek, though this is a difficult game to best them in. Losing a game against an arkan sonney will result in all of a person’s good luck being siphoned away.

ABILITIES:

Arkan sonneys can siphon luck from individuals and add it to their own internal reservoir, granting the arkan sonney good luck. This also leaves only bad luck for the person whose luck has been siphoned away.

Through a similar process to their siphoning, arkan sonneys can grant a person good luck by sharing luck from their internal reservoir. This will deplete the luck an arkan sonney has, meaning they will likely need to siphon more to avoid misfortune.

Because of their dietary habits, arkan sonneys are immune to most poisons and venoms.

Capable of standard fae magic such as glamouring themselves (often as humans or normal hedgehogs), or binding people with their words, as they are capable of speech.

In their true forms, they are able to roll up into a defensive ball much like hedgehogs, which makes them a little more resilient or harder to pick up due to the spikes.

WEAKNESSES:

If challenged to a game that they lose, arkan sonneys are compelled to reward their challenger with luck from their own reservoir. 

Arkan sonneys are more vulnerable than other fae to word binds. If they are bound, they can be forced to give up their own luck.

They cannot generate luck on their own, and must siphon it from external sources.

Like all fae, they are vulnerable to iron.

Arkan sonneys may be especially sought after by wardens, as there is some belief that killing them grants a person any luck still stored away in their internal reservoir.
