quick reviews of books i read this weekend

 1. A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

okay i didnt HATE it but it wasnt my favorite. my least favorite trope in fantasy books is the childhood best friend being in a love triangle bc they never actually get the girl and are basically useless (when did this turn into a gale hawthorne call out post) but i liked rook’s character, i just did not like him and henrietta together. or henrietta and magnus. or anyone and henrietta. actually i ship henrietta with common sense. 

also it was like she would forget about rook for CHAPTERS then suddenly she’s breaking the ward for him? sis CHILL. the plot twists were nice but the whole thing with hargrove being like “your dad didnt drown” and henrietta being UNBOTHERED by it and being like “i dont care i just need rook who i neglected for the whole book”. is her father alive? what happened with her aunt? what was the whole thing???? henrietta i need ANSWERS not your weird shadow boy please.

2. Sick Kids in Love by Hannah Moskowitz

10/10

every time i read a contemporary im like wow that was so good i should read more and this one did not disappoint. i loved ibby and sasha’s relationship and character growth, especially isabel. it was SO good and perfect to just read real quick. definitely recommend 10/10 cute, sick jewish kids falling in love

The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima

This series man. The seven realms has quickly become one of my favorite fantasy series of all time and I just simply can’t get over it. The ending had me crying so much. I’m this close to rereading the series soon. Please do yourself a favor and read it, you won’t regret it.

Fire by Kristin Cashore (audiobook)

5/5 stars

This is my second time reading this book so I decided to spice it up and listen to it instead. It was my first audiobook ever and I loved it soooo much. The way the person narrated it and gave every character their own voice and personality made it even more enjoyable.

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson (audiobook)

I forgot how much I enjoyed this series when I read the first book back in 2016. I also missed the main character and how badass she was. This series has just about everything: amazing characters, political intrigue, incredible world building. AND THE ENDING THOUGH. Man I was at work listening to it and everyone was looking at me funny because I was crying.

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima

Cinda Williams Chima you have outdone yourself again. What an amazing start to an incredible series. My fingers are itching to start the next book very very soon. Also, can I just say the first 100 pages broke my heart?! I reread the same page over and over to make sure that what I was reading was real. If you read the book, you know what I mean.

Again. One of my favorites. Second time around and it’s still as good as the first time. It’s also the best love triangle I’ve ever read in a book. Gonna read the second one soon since the third books is coming out in October.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore (audiobook)

My baby Kasta and Po. I missed reading about them so much. I’m very very glad I decided to visit this amazing world again.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson (audiobook)

At first I wasn’t a big fan of this book. At least for me, it started to pick up right at the end. It was a very good book though. I think it’s mostly because I wasn’t as attached to the characters as I hoped I would be. The world was amazing and I noticed some Spanish words that were thrown in there which made me really happy. I’m not sure if i’m interested in continuing with the series. We’ll see.

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

4.5/5 stars

This book has been on my tbr for a year and a half. I was debating if I should read it or not this month but then I was like hey might as well AND IM SO GLAD I DID. I was really invested in the characters, specially on Meira. I found her hilarious in so many chapters. AND THE PLOT TWIST. I usually see plot twists coming but I didn’t expect this one at all. Definitely continuing with the series.

Secara maknawi merupakan keinginan besar kepada kesenangan duniawi (material), seperti rakus pada harta, tamak pada kedudukan, gila pada perzinaan (seksualitas), sehingga lalai kepada Allah. 4. #nafsu adalah keinginan besar kepada bentuk-bentuk non-material, seperti ego, kesombongan, dan harga diri. 5.#himmah merupakan lawan kata dari syahwat, yang juga memiliki arti keinginan. Namun bila syahwat merupakan keinginan yang rendah, maka himmah adalah keinginan yang tinggi, keinginan menuju Allah dan bertemu Allah. Adakalanya Allah menempatkan seseorang dalam dunia asbab dalam kurun tertentu-misalnya, untuk mencari nafkah, mengurus keluarga, atau memimpin negara. Apabila seseorang sedang Allah tempatkan dalam kondisi asbab itu, namun dia berkeinginan untuk tajrid (misalkan dengan ber-uzlah), maka itu dikatakan sebagai syahwat yang samar. Sebaliknya, saat Allah menempatkan seseorang dalam tajrid, namun dia justru menginginkan asbab, maka itu merupakan sebuah kejatuhan dari keinginan yang tinggi. Inilah pentingnya untuk berserah diri dalam bersuluk (proses menuju Allah), agar mengetahui kapan seseorang harus tajrid (memurnikan diri dari keinginan duniawi) dan kapan seseorang harus terjun dalam dunia asbab (tanggung jawab duniawi). Semua kehendak seorang pencari Tuhan (salik) haruslah sesuai atau adanya sinkronisasi dengan Kehendak Allah. Kesimpulan, Jadilah manusia yang seimbang, bekerja saat di dunia dengan rajin dan #profesional. Dan tetap ingat Allah kapan saja. Sehingga #seimbang hidupnya.
