Oh no fr I don't see Mugm as anything other then like...having to deal with those two being excessively affectionate (read: they've been threatening bodily harm upon in a freaky seductive way and Clown has just grabbed Ferre's collar from where Mugm is seated, who is trying to eat breakfast) and he's kinda basically like...their kid in my eyes?

Like, the *kid* that has seen so much shit they've done to each other but also like *their* kid that they can hurt and maim if they want to but the minute anyone else tries to hurt him they'll drag him behind them just because they touched Mugm.

I think its a cruel but loving (kinda) dynamic between them all and they have no shame in reestablishing the status quo to Mugm if he steps out of line but like...not in *that* way but the way of making him submit either by harm or his emotions.

will you give me a tiny rundown on the reality (?) show you keep posting about . i want to be in the Know

oh my, certainly I shall.

it is The Traitors, a social deduction game quite similar to Mafia or Werewolf, according to people who have played those (I haven’t, but just in case you have? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

let it be said! that I LOATHE and DESPISE reality tv. this is the only thing like it that I ever watch. (I don’t think liking reality tv is a moral failing, I just find unscripted people boring most of the time, and game shows rather vapid and silly.) BUT. But. Having been tricked into watching by my Doctor Who friends who would NOT shut up about it (on what is meant to be a Doctor Who chat!!) I have been forced to admit that the traitors has the secret sauce that makes it irresistibly watchable and indeed addictive to me.

The casting (particularly for the UK version and the New Zealand one) is so great, you really get into people’s heads, everything is about double bluffs and second-guessing, it’s so chaotic and so delicious. And there are some genuinely adorable people there every year who I root for.

the gist below the cut (if you are not already bored):

about 20 people go and stay in a big stately home. on the first day, between 2 and 4 of them are selected to be Traitors. the rest are known as the Faithful. each night, the traitors get to decide on one Faithful to ‘murder’ (remove from the game). during the day, they must all take part in missions (sometimes boring, sometimes hilarious) where they bond as a group/form alliances etc.

then in the evening they meet for a Round Table where everyone airs their suspicions of who is a traitor and one person is ‘banished’ (voted out.) upon leaving they reveal if they in fact were a traitor or a faithful.

this continues until there are (usually) 5 people left for the final. after one last round table, the remaining 4 get to decide whether to end the game there or banish again, leaving 3, or again, leaving just 2. at this point, people don’t reveal if they were traitors or faithfuls, so it’s just based on vibes. if anyone left at the end is a traitor, they win the entire prize pot (usually about £100,000 in the UK version). if there are only faithfuls left, they share the money between them.

given that, usually it’s seen that faithfuls are a team while traitors are only out for themselves, but sometimes you get devious faithfuls who are playing individualistically and adorable traitor teams who don’t want to backstab each other! (rooting for the current UK duo to stick to this because i love them!)

last year this show became my Entire personality for about 3 months after I got into the UK version. I ran a longform virtual traitors game on whatsapp which was (I have to admit) a resounding success and proved to me that the game is just golden and will turn out amazing no matter who the players are. (We did it over 9 days, similar to how the show is done, as opposed to a one-day traitors themed party I had been to, at which I decided that one day is simply not long enough for the crazy to set in. You got to have people lying to each other for multiple days. just gotta.)

anyway. It’s kind of hard to describe the show and make it sound good, I feel like this has been very boring to read. but the UK cast in particular is always so entertaining (as is NZ season 2 - some all time greats in there.)

the only other version I’ve seen so far (and there are 40+ now, im working through them but need a VPN for most, booo) is the USA one, and this, I would have to say, is my least favourite because they use celebrities … but they are (almost) all people who are known for being on game shows in the first place. loads of them know each other already and know each other’s game faces, and soooo much is lost, imo, by it not being random people who don’t know each other.

(that said, on the ‘normal people’ versions there is almost always a duo who do know each other somehow, like a parent and child, a couple, siblings etc - they usually keep this secret so as not to look like they’ve come in with an advantage and the reveals are always delicious and very very silly)

the UK version did actually do a celebrity spinoff this year just gone, and that surpassed my expectations massively, but we don’t really have the same ‘gamer celebrity’ culture here - we had Stephen Fry on it 😂 (do I fool myself to think that people outside the UK know Stephen Fry?) a better measure would be that I, self proclaimed hater of game shows, reality tv and the like, knew who 13 of the 19 contestants were in considerable detail. I feel like they were just a different calibre of celebrity than the ones who populate US traitors. But this may just be local bias, I don’t know.

ALL THINGS SAID. the traitors is a silly silly and hilarious and dramatic nonsense of a show and I love it so much. It has its problems, obviously, like stupid game mechanics they try out and the hideous tendency of the early rounds to get rid of at least 1 person of colour based on Traitorous Vibes Nobody Can Quantify. this we do not brush under the carpet. but.. it makes for amazing tv when they are Not doing all of that, which is most of the time.

thank you for your interest. I realise that you were not implying you would watch it in any case, therefore I accept readily that I will surely have now put you off ever doing so. I regret nothing. traitors forever!

Prophetic Hijinks but it's the kids from the Encanto questioning Antonio about Elena and Bruno's relationship like "That's your uncle's girlfriend?! Since when?!"

Similar to Camilo's "how?!" in that one comic you made.

The kids definitely had questions so he brought his tia to show and tell.

Questions included:

“Did he hypnotize you to come here?”

Elena: “No he didn’t. That’s not his gift, he can see the future”

“Did he you see you in his future?”

Elena: “he did”

“And that’s when he became your boyfriend?”

Elena: “no, first he passed out and then he became my boyfriend”

“Are you trapped here?”

Elena: “Nope, drove here myself”

“Can I drive your car?”

Elena: “Afraid that will have to be a no”

“Can I sit in your car?”

Elena: “Yes, you can”

“Is it true, Bruno eats human brains?”

Elena: “Not anymore it’s bad for his cholesterol”

“Are you joking?”

Elena: “Yes I am, he doesn’t eat human brains. But I do watch his cholesterol”

“Cause he’s old?”

Elena: “Yes cause he’s older and I want to be with him a long, long time”

“Are you old?”

Elena: “Well tell me, Can an old woman do this?” *Elena stands on one foot, rubs her belly and does pats her head. To a chorus of giggles.

“….”

“Probably?”

Elena: “oh yeah, than I am old. At least compared to you guys. I’m 40.

*Argument ensues about whether that is old based on their parents ages. We are completely off topic now.*

Fifi: “I see you brought your guitar, did you want to sing for us?”

Elena: “Oh, yes”

“Can you sing?”

Elena: “I’ll let you guys be the judge, but I actually sing professionally and have three albums out. I was also the main singer at a nice nightclub. So I certainly hope so”.

“Are you rich?”

Elena: “I’m comfortable”

“That means she’s rich.”

“Are you sure you weren’t hypnotized?”

Elena: “Only in love little ducks, I adore Bruno with all my heart no magic needed.”

….

“Is he a rich?”

Elena: “ok! So this song is ‘Moon River”

The rumors have now switched to how Bruno landed Elena. To Bruno Madrigal earned some obscene wealth in the ten years he was gone.

This rumor mill Bruno enjoyed. Far better than feasting on screams.
