Do you have any information on the Arkham Knight?

I certainly do! The story of the Arkham Knight is one of those stories where the loose ends getting tied up can easily skate under people's radars. For the reason that when she appeared it was in a blaze of (in)glory where it seemed like she was establishing herself as a new playing in the Gotham underworld and a true threat to Batman. But after a while she just vanished from most people's active thoughts and when the information about her DID come to light (either when she got arrested or ended up dead, depends on the villain) she had sunk beneath the horizon of the 24 hours news cycle.

But safe to say it is one more sin that can be laid at the feet of the Arkham dynasty.

(A picture of the Arkham Knight, plucked out and cleaned up from one of her earliest news photos) Jeremiah Arkham was one in a long line of Arkham descendants to become head doctor at the infamous asylum for the criminally insane the bore his family name. The man himself is remembered as fairly unremarkable during his tenure. The person that is remembered is his WIFE, Swedish psychologist Ingrid Karlsson. Not only was she, like most Arkham staff one of the most promising psychotherapists of her generation she was also well known for her kindness and humanity. In a complex where it is all too easy for the patients to be dehumanized and abused for their crimes, she was always remembered as gentle and humane. She gained a laundry list of personal relationships with some of the institutions most violent inmates, relationships that would save the life of her unborn daughter. Ingrid had the bad luck to be working on the night of a violent riot on the Arkham grounds, while also being 9 months pregnant. The stress and shock of the events leading her to go into labor. While this would have certainly spelled her death in normal circumstances, the criminals that she had cultivated such trust with came to her aid. Poison Ivy, Solomon Grundy and Clayface protecting her while Harley Quinn helped to deliver the baby. Astrid Arkham being born in the middle of the maelstrom. It was only moment after her birth that tragedy struck. A batarang, thrown by one of the Bat Family members who had appeared on site to help quell the riot was picked up by an inmate and tossed at random. By a tragic quirk of fate it bypassed the walls of metahuman protection that surrounded Ingrid, lodging itself into her throat, killing her instantly. Harley Quinn handed over the baby to arriving EMTs and the rest of the group quietly returned to their cells, crestfallen. In the following years Astrid was homeschooled on the Arkham grounds, making friends with the inmates in the same way her mother had. Even with a man who her mother had given a respectful berth, the Joker. She would read fairy tales with him, enamored by the stories of knight that would free imprisoned princesses from castles. A story she started to connect with her imprisoned friends, and a mental dragon that took the form of the shadowy horror she blamed for her mother's death: The Batman. By the time she reached young adulthood her complex was too deeply ingrained and she disappeared from public notice. Secretly taking on a worldwide quest to hone her body into a martial arts master, and creating the armor of the Arkham Knight using her family's prestigious wealth she also picked up followers. Those who, for one reason or another followed her message of violently removing the Batman from Gotham. This cult became known as the Knights of the Sun. Then, well, to be glib nature took its course. The Arkham Knight appeared in Gotham in a scheme that lead to a large chunk of the city's inmates being freed, leading the Bat Family on a merry chase across the city before they were discovered by the Knight who caught them off guard and delivered punishing blows to the Batman himself. While it went on for some time Batman triumphed, as he always does. And Astrid was imprisoned in the very asylum that bore her family name, recently losing her life there in an explosion that was eventually revealed to be the work of no disgraced mercenary CEO Simon Saint. The ghoulish thing is that her body was never recovered from the wreckage initially, leading to fears that she may have used the explosion to escape. Only for her body to then be discovered from the archives of Amanda Waller's farcical "Bureau of Sovereignty", heaven only knows what she had been doing with it. Astrid has since been laid to rest on the grounds of the Asylum whose inmates she and her mother cared for so dearly. Where we can only hope she and her mother both have found some measure of peace.

One of my favorite things in comics is when there's a bigger bad and villians have to team up to protect their city. The future state: the next batman, Arkham Knights run was one of my favorites even if it was short.

I just wish they hadn't ruined it a couple issues after the writer changed. 😕

I also love the angst of Dr. Phosphorus chronic pain. I don't think they have gone that route in creature commandos.

I also feel like Princess Illanas armor has similarities to Astrids.

This is funny to me, I do agree he would benefit from the ‘built in friend’ sort of relationship you get with siblings. But, ultimately, I believe it really depends on whether the younger sister figure is actually related to him or not.

I think that if Riddler had a younger sister that is biologically related to him, they might not be on the best of terms — I think Eddie would’ve appreciated her as a child. But when it comes time where he wants to cut ties with his family as an adult? I could see him cutting her out of his life as well and viewing her as an ‘extension of a bad memory’, for lack of a better term.

However, a younger sister in the found family sense? It would be more common than you think. I’ve already mentioned that I love the sibling dynamic between him and Killer Frost, which fits the sibling banter/‘no one gets to bother you but me’ sort of relationship. But I haven’t mentioned him and Astrid Arkham in my AU yet.

I support Eddie and Astrid having a sibling dynamic — with Edward being like an older brother to her due to his relationship with Jeremiah Arkham, her father. Though, with their age gap, I imagine it would take the form of him reading her stories or eventually trying to teach her to code instead of them acting like best friends — though I’m certain Astrid would pay rapt attention to his plans if he told her (and likely try to psychoanalyze once she is older…).
