So y’all remember those promotional videos they made for late 2018 and early 2019 for How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World right? I freaking love those, how they integrated Toothless into our reality. Playing with the giant ball that drops at the stroke of midnight for New Year’s.

I really like that they did something like this. It made me want to write a HTTYD Acting AU. I’ve managed to brainstorm a few things already, this is what I have so far. If anyone has any input I would gladly appreciate it.
So it would be modern day, and to incorporate Toothless it would be a time that the dragons had returned. Toothless, the only known Night Fury, is one of the most famous dragons in the acting industry. The dragons began emerging over fifty years ago, and the humans discovered that they had been hibernating in the depths of the earth for centuries. By this point they have been somewhat integrated into society, and their history still in steady progress.
Hiccup is from the Archipelago, and has moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He’s already starred in some minor things, and is now going to audition for a movie which is one that was based on a book. A book that was released shortly after the dragons had begun to come back out into the open. He makes it past the first audition, and another audition involves a dragon who will be partaking in the movie. Toothless, and admittedly Hiccup has seen all of the movies the dragon has starred in to be starstruck when meeting him in person.
Hiccup gets the part, and comes to meet the rest of the gang. Astrid is a stunt coordinator, Heather is a personal assistant, Snotlout originally auditioned for the main part as Hiccup did, but was cast as another character, the twins work in catering, and Fishlegs is Hiccup’s childhood friend who stayed on Berk. Eret is an antagonist for the film, but behind the scenes he makes friends with the gang. Atali would Toothless’ personal handler, and let’s say also agent. Viggo would be the director for the film, and Mala the executive producer.
For the fics I usually whip up, I do like throwing in some major conflict. But for this I’d like to keep it suave, just keep easy with no high stakes. For the plot, well it would follow the filming of the movie. In that time Hiccup gets to know Toothless better, as they would be thoroughly involved in the film. Hiccup discovers that Toothless isn’t the most friendliest with humans, and definitely doesn’t allow unprompted touching. But as they spend more time together, Atali comes to learn that Toothless takes a liking to Hiccup. Allowing him to be the first human to ride on his back.
And because I do love the dynamic between Viggo and Hiccup in RTTE, and do see it as kind of romantic, there’s going to be some of that in this as well. Hiccup can see that the director acts different toward him, and one day Viggo does ask Hiccup on a date. Hiccup doesn’t answer right away, wondering if he should accept or decline. Thinking that if he declined, the well-known director could dismantle his just-blossoming career.
I don’t even have a name for this fic though, and still working on the outline, but what do you guys think?
