Sorry for sending this ask while you’re gone, I thought it was a fun au and didn’t wanna forget it. Please take your time to answer this and don’t feel stressed to reply. I hope you’re doing well :) 

While messing with mutagen Donnie gets turned human but he doesn’t have any memories of being a turtle. So he starts going about his life as human (maybe picking a different name or something) while his family and friends all think he’s dead. I’m not exactly sure how they’d find out about him being Donnie but I think the au concept is really fun :)

I original saw something like this with the rise turtles and thought it’d be super fun with the 2012 turtles

I disappear for months and people still thought of me. I made an imprint! I inspired a fun surprise!! How neat!!!

Oooooo right from the first sentence my brain switched into discrepancy ‘how do we make this work’ mode because if he’s messing around with mutagen then it’s likely he’s in his lab, and if he’s in his lab then when he switches, why would he leave?

If I woke up with no memories and my general area looked lived in, I’d stay put to see if anyone appears because it’s most likely that they’ll know who I am and why my head/body feels wrong.

Unless his body transforms first and it takes longer for the memories to be erased, so he’s panicking (in confused, disoriented pain) as alarm bells ring that something!! is!! wrong!! His brain makes the hazy connection that he needs his brothers, and he goes looking for them, only he is in no real state to do any searching, and it just leads to him blindly stumbling and struggling through tunnels until he passes out.

Teen has NO real ability to think and should not be running around with no supervision but there he goes.

Then I was like "hmmm, but how do they get convinced that he's DEAD?" because I think if he just went missing, then they'd be convinced that he's out there somewhere, and the only way to kill that hope is for them to discover a body.

So if we want to do a murder then we give them a body!! Well, not, like, a literal body because he's not dead, obviously, BUT- I was thinking about the mutating process and how 2012tmnt likes to make things very disturbing for funsies, so what if the mutating process involves hauntingly disturbing changes that include molting the turtle shell. Because humans don't have shells (duh).

So the brothers come home to a messed-up lab (since Donnie may have messed it up while not thinking straight) and a floor covered in turtle shell 'dust' (kid-friendly) and turtles scales.

The logical conclusion: Donnie was doing an experiment that killed him and left only his shell behind. *Insert complete and utter devastation*

Now, to be frank, I don't know if this is what you MEANT, but you said "of being a turtle" which COULD mean he remembers humanish aspects like being a brother and son, but not the mutant turtle aspects, like needing to learn ninjitsu to stay alive. His memories are all mixed and matched with one another, but he does have some, which is why he begins to "go about his life" instead of beginning a desperate search to figure out who he is and where he came from.

Over time, he comes to the conclusions that 1) he's a human who has a family that he can't remember well so he must be estranged from them, 2) he must be homeless because he can't recall memories of a living place, and 3) he's actually pretty darn smart.

With these in place, he goes on with his life because he can't think of any reason why he shouldn't continue on. I think he would still use the name Donnie because nothing about it is turtlish in nature. (I've met a person or two named Donnie.) I think he'd use his big brain to go around repairing things for cash until he gets an actual position somewhere. His life starts to improve.

Then, one day, his world is thrown out of whack when he meets three large, skilled, and terrifying mutants who use his brothers' names.

Ugh the AU concept is SO FUN thank you!!!

(Btw if you had a different idea for how anything would go down: feel free to send another ask to bap me on the head with a newspaper for taking over your idea. I can get a little too into things).

I've always wondered if Frilled Jellyfish and the Gem Sisters can see the times when Crimson Coral is going out to meet Mercurial Knight.

In your AU, do you think she'd sneak out or she will be open about it?

In my AU, at the beginning of their relationship, both Mercurial Knight and Crimson Coral would sneak out to meet each other at the coast of the Cookie Kingdom. Though both of their family members had a suspicion that they were seeing each other.

Eventually, Frilled Jellyfish was sneaking to a picnic date with Fig (she didn't tell Silent Salt just yet too), then they ran into each other coincidently, and then put two and two together. Here's a little meme I made showcasing this:

Luckily a few days after this the two siblings (here's the family tree, if you need further context.) and their partners decided to be open about it around everyone including their families.
