saw someone say that the batarangs were named pre-dickbin, but i do love the idea that dick named all the other bat-related names. plus we cannot forget that bruce excels at being an irritating (and repressed) cunt (affectionate) so i propose it went something like this:

dick, newly robin, can't be older than 9: so the little throwy things are 'batarangs'?

Bruce: yeah

dick: and you're batman

bruce: yeah

dick: so shouldn't the car be the batmobile?

bruce, 20-something, stupid:

bruce: you are a genius

Batman: "--I've flown that thing half asleep before" to Gordon "kids these days am I right?" back to call "We'll be there in a second. Next time release the yoke and radio in."
