Some of my favourite "hualian in their silly little bubble" moments:
• Gambler's Den — Hua Cheng did NOT need to stand that close to teach dice. He absolutely did not. Man was practically folding Xie Lian into his chest like "no no gege, hold it like this" meanwhile the Ghost City residents are bullying Lang Qianqiu in the background threatening to pull his pants down and he’s just standing there having the worst humiliation arc of his entire princely life. His royal dignity evaporating in real time
• Black Water arc outfit switching — Hua Cheng changing fits every five minutes like he’s trying to get a reaction. He says nothing. Xie Lian says nothing. But Xie Lian is LOOKING. Trying so hard to be respectful. Meanwhile Hua Cheng absolutely clocking every micro expression like "did he like that one? what about this one?" They are both sick.
• Black Water Arc part 2 – Hua Cheng straight up kissing Xie Lian while Shi Qingxuan is in the middle of realizing his entire life is a scam sponsored by trauma. Shi Qingxuan fighting for emotional survival. HuaLian fighting for lip contact. Timing? Never heard of her.
• Mount Tonglu (?)— ghosts screaming, everyone fighting for their lives. Hua Cheng sitting there meditating like like God ascended mortal world and Xie Lian just walks up and kisses his forehead mid apocalypse. I love them.
• Post Jun Wu reveal — imagine being exposed as the ultimate villain and then being forced to sit in the communication array listening to HuaLian softly talk about missing each other. That is psychological warfare. They werent even trying to be petty. They are js like that
• Final battle – Heaven is on fire and buildings are collapsing. Literally everyone is panicking and these two decide now is the time. They kiss. Again. End of the world aesthetic. The world is ending? Grab gege!
• On the giant Xie Lian statue — everyone else hanging on by a thread, half dead and exhausted while these two are up there kissing on top of a massive stone version of Xie Lian like it's their private balcony. Do they have shame? No. Do they care? Also no.
But ofcourse they are not ignoring the plot. They are the plot.
