β Betas are the rarest type, rarer than Alphas and Omegas, not because they’re better or worse but because some of society vilified them and now people try to avoid bearing them. Overall, the average person wouldn’t be against Betas, but there’s still a good chunk of the world that has a little prejudice.
β Naturally there’s a little shame culture, in some regions/countries more than others, similar to neurodivergence stigma or something equivalent.
β Much like Omegas and Alphas, Betas produce a scent that is unique to them. Omegas tend to be cloying or sweet, Alphas tend to be muskier or smokier, and Betas tend to be earthier or mildly floral.
β Examples of Beta scents: Green tea, moss, jasmine, rosemary, fig leaf, almonds, a mild pear.
β Alphas have ruts and Omegas have heats, whereas Betas tend to experience something similar to a human woman’s hormonal cycle. In females, of course, this presents as a woman’s menstrual cycle normally would (ie a period). In males, it presents in cramps around reproductive areas and in the thighs, stomach/abdominal, and lower back. Male Betas also experience similar hormonal drops and highs as the female Betas do during these cycles.
β Betas have the same abilities reproductively as normal people do. Female Betas can be impregnated, and Males Betas cannot, etc. Fertility fluctuates the usual amount as well—although male fertility tends to increase during a period in his cycle, just like a female ovulation.
β Betas usually choose to mate with each other. When they choose an Omega or an Alpha as a mate, this is usually because the given partner is on the lower-intensity end of the spectrum for all of the high-maintenance parts of their second gender.
β Betas are the most sensitive to things physically. A better sense of hearing, a better sense of smell (including pheromones), a decreased chance of visual impairment. Their joints might also be looser, which makes them more flexible but also more prone to injury at times. They might be more likely to fall sick or have a chronic illness. They might choose to wear softer clothes, or might be more intolerant to heat or cold.
β Originally, Betas might’ve been hunter-gatherers. In the simplest description, Alphas are “protectors”, “fighters”, and “guards”. Omegas are “caretakers”, “counselors”, and “teachers”. Betas are “explorers”, “students”, and “organizers”. There’s certainly overlap but that’s the simplified version.
β Betas have some variable features of the physical and otherwise. Alphas have fangs or sharp canines, and some Betas do—some do not. Omegas like to nest and such—some Betas do, some Betas do not. Omegas produce lots of slick (male and female)—some Betas do, some Betas do not. It’s harder to distinguish a Beta from appearance or behavior alone, although definitely not impossible.
β The presentation of a Beta is easily identifiable, just like an Alpha or an Omega. Betas typically experience presentation with nosebleeds, migraines, frequent aches and pains, scent presentation, an urge to hyper-fixate or focus on something, an urge to make changes (dye hair, start a hobby, get a pet, etc), being even more sensitive to smell/hearing/touch, desiring to be touched or desiring to avoid touch, and et cetera. A usual way to tell if a presentation is determining a Beta is the skewed ratio between a very low energy level mixed with doings lots of very high energy things.
β Betas have a less dominant genotype than Alphas and Omegas.
If two Betas mate, the offspring is likely to be 95% Beta and 5% something else.
everybody craves new things around here [omegaverse] but nobody ever makes any! Well, here is my contribution that i've had fun noodling with this week. I really wanted to push myself to think about everything in a completely new way. Here's that - mostly for my own memory lol but also for the peanut gallery as usual.

how does it work?
the betas are the core (anchors) and they are the primary coupling. In this world, betas are on the top of the food chain and have all the power. they've graduated from such inconveniences as giving birth or siring their own children.
which is why you've got the + relationship. Ties - a beta who is "tied" to an alpha/beta of their same gender (male, female, other) who acts on their behalf as their breeder. Every beta who is anchored, is also tied.
which leads me to echos - the relationship between an alpha and omega brought together by the anchoring of their ties. They reproduce with one another, and those children then belong to the family/foursome but legally the beta anchors.
everyone is put together via assessments and exams. Tied pairs are established first, and then the betas are matched into anchorpairs.
there is no such thing as an alpha x omega relationship outside the context of a beta x beta relationship.
alphas and omegas work inside the home, while the primary beta works outside the home. The secondary beta may do either. It is possible for all four to work outside the home, but they'd have to be very wealthy to support that much hired help.
to children - the names such as "mother" or "father" would be reserved for their beta parents. alpha and omega parents would be addressed differently depending on the culture and depending on the family.
only betas have voting rights, but they are supposed to vote in agreement with their ties as well. both primary and secondary betas in a family can vote.
a beta can be tied with either an alpha or omega, as long as they share the same gender. That tiepair can now only be anchored with a pair with a tie with the opposite dynamic. ex: beta + alpha can't anchor with beta + omega (priority is reproduction).
how fun! i'll eventually record more notes in additional posts later, but wanted to write this down before i forgot :). Happy worldbuilding to me!
E alpha who have like 4-5 betas (4 males and a female maybe) working for him,maybe alpha is someone important like a ceo or an heir and they're his bodyguards
and...yep,alpha is lusting over his bodyguards and wants them to be HIS and no one else's. But also has to learn things about betas since he though betas are "neutrals" and things like that

CEO would have a lot of omegas going after him! What omega wouldn't want a rich alpha to spend the rest of their days with (and their money)? But the CEO could care less! He has 5 adorable beta's he wants- no needs to mate with!
At first, he didn't think too much about it. When he got his bodyguards he brushed any and all attraction as merely thoughts. It totally didn't mean anything when he started to think about his body guards getting oiled up and kissing each other....TRUST!
The beta's also didn't think much of it as.... Well they were just normal every day beta's and he was an Alpha CEO so why would they ever believe for a second that he would have any interest? Sure, he spoke to them occasionally about non work topics but that wasn't really THAT big of a deal, right? They would entertain conversation with him but they would never initiate it with him unless necessary.
This somewhat annoyed Alpha, who just wanted to know EVERYTHING possible about his future mates! He spent so much time stalking their socials and reading about betas that he would forget work for once.
The betas would be shocked to know that all of a sudden, Alpha watches their favorite shows and makes their foods just how they like it. He would grow closer and closer to then until one day he got them to break out of their shells.
He had done all of his duties that day, so he didn't have to go anywhere else. As all of the betas were about to leave, he stopped them in their tracks. "Let me treat you! " He insisted. While he had some home staff, he didn't bother getting a chef as he did enjoy cooking. He made a nice and fancy meal for them and how could they possibly refuse?
Over the meal he flirted with them, pointing out how cute one of the Betas were after she got sauce on her shirt. He also made sure to note how another Beta's eyes looked as beautiful as the night sky, and relished in the Beta's blushing as he thanked him. He was finally getting a glimpse with how his life would be with his mates (well, before the pups that is). Just as two of the betas (who were in a relationship) were about to leave, he informed them how late it was! It was about 12:00 AM by then, and they couldn't possibly go home by themselves (Alpha ignoring the fact that they are literal body guards....)! All of the betas were pretty tired, so they couldn't help but agree. + they would technically be here earlier for their next shift....
After they agreed, alpha informed them of oneeee little thing, he didn't have a guest room! He only had his room. I am sure you know what happened next....
I'm never gonna write this, so if someone else wants to, go right ahead (preferably with credit, please):
Everyone thinks that Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson are alphas, but they're actually hiding their true designations--not because they're scared omegas, but because they're both secretly betas.
They're mimicking! You obviously can't choose what you present as (unless you go through bitching or studding, but this is rural Indiana in the 80's; nobody in that town has ever even heard of these things)--
BUT! Your designation can be partially influenced by your environment! That's why Steve's dad made him join three different sports teams; to encourage his body to develop into that of an alpha. Except, well... Steve doesn't really want that. He hates the culture surrounding alpha males, but he also sees how the world treats omegas of all genders, and he doesn't want to play a part in any of that bullshit. So his body decides to present as something else entirely.
Eddie's story was much the same, but he also went through a different kind of pressure from his family. His parents fought a lot, so he would play the mediator in a desperate attempt to keep them together (and so his dad would target his anger at him instead--just like he does with bullies at school).
Steve sees alphas as assholes, and Eddie sees alphas as abusive, but they both recognize they would be granted a certain level of safety and social standing if everyone thought that they were alphas instead.
That's not even getting into the fact that betas aren't exactly a hot commodity; Steve is terrified that people will find him boring--or worse, undesirable.
They came up with the plan together. Steve was a sophomore, and Tommy had dared him to try buying weed from the weird junior who still hadn't presented *yet. Eddie had just seen his last client for the day, but as soon as Steve approached the picnic table, both their presentations hit at the same time. There's no beta equivalent of a heat/rut, they just... suddenly Know™ that's what their designation is.
It was actually Steve's idea, at first. He remembered reading a book about mimicry in elementary school, and when he mentioned Monarch Butterflies, Eddie came up with the nickname King Steve (it only stuck because other students overheard Eddie refer to him as that while snarkily muttering under his breath). He helped Steve flesh out the details of the plan, and the two came to an agreement: they'd try to prevent targeted harassment from their respective cliques, under the threat of mutually assured destruction.
*in my mind, they go through their initial puberty around ages 11-13, and then their presentation/second puberty hits around ages 14-16. I imagine Steve was freshly 16, with Eddie just a few weeks shy of turning 17, so he was a bit of a late bloomer.
Solanglo omegaverse au but no s3x and it's just Nico, an omega, proving that he doesn't need an alpha to spoil him and protect him. Wil, the alpha, actually likes this dynamic.
Wil is a doctor, which isn't common for alphas and a lot of patients hit on him, Wil hates this but doesn't say anything because "they're injured patients" , so Nico yells and glares at them.
They're basically a beta x beta relationship because they both contribute and act like alphas and omegas depending on the situation
There is not discussion nor fanfiction about the negative affects of being considered the "forgettable gender" has on betas in the omegaverse. I see so many discussions on how omegas are oppressed, how they handle it, and ways they over come it, and talks about how alpha often have to deal with the constant fear and distrust they face, but what about the betas?!
Imagine having society constantly rely on you to keep things running (going off the headcannon that they don't experience heats or ruts) only to be ignored and looked over. You are never wanted by omegas or alphas and this is even worse for female betas. Male betas and alphas are always talking about omegas and giving them gifts and attention while they have to sit there and smiling. And then having to listen to omegas complain about the attention. The betas understand the issues that omegas face but at the same time they get no attention or love. Its gotta be heart breaking.
For male betas they are in constant competition with alphas even if they will never be acknowledged. Even if they manage to be really good at something, even better than alphas, it wont matter. Why are you trying so hard you're not an alpha. They are bigger, stronger, and smarter than you, just let them do it.
To be a beta is to be the some of the most important unnecessary members of society. I haven't even gotten into other popular headcanons like the low fertility. I just think there could be so much more exploration to betas, and I might just have to do it myself.
I may not have touched every fine crevice and cranny of the Omegaverse Fandom. I know this. Still, and this is more of a statement, there's not enough wump and angst wherever I am. I want some societal critiques, some dystopia, maybe even something small and personal that will ruin the rest of my life. I want pain, however not in the SA sense, while also not in the not SA sense. It seems to be a rather largely explored topic within more explicitly moody omegaverse content and I'm not fully object. I just want other things as well. Maybe some classism and sexism, racism, homophobia. And not, using classism as an example, just someone taking advantage of another. No. I'd like if someone or multiple someones took advantage of thousands of people and how that has affected their lives in the context of this AU. Like broader stretches more nuance. For example, I have this writing itch, a fanfiction that just won't leave me be about two elderly same sex betas living in a relationship with each other where they're constantly questioned about it's foundation from the very start of it–in their teen years. The whys the how's the stares and how that impacts them. The different assumptions placed on them as apposed to A×A, O×A, B×A, O×O, O×B couples and how that harms those couples too...
And... that is to say, does have any recs? Please. Or advise if I'm destined to lose my mind making my own ideas come to life.
