A Song Below Water is one those beautiful books that is a whimsical contemporary fantasy but also packs a rather hefty punch with the discussion of heavier social topics. In this particular case, police brutality and instituionalized racism against BPOC✊ Whilst the story centres around the siren's species 🧜♀️ parallels between mutiple cases that have spurred righteous outrage with the current Black Lives Matter movement are easy to pick and just as heartbreaking in this book as they are in reality.😩 Despite this lofty illucidation of our current social climate it's still a magical, beautiful book with beautiful messages of embracing yourself, body positivity and self love on many levels❤ It's equal parts powerful and enjoyable and was hard to put down. Also the narrator for this audiobook was BRILLIANT 🙌It's an absolute joy to listen to you are completely swept away by the story. You forget you're even listening to a book you instead are just transported into these girls school and carnival lives 🎪 In all seriousness, read this book.
