I don’t care what people do with mods because it doesn’t effect canon in any way. However I will say that I hate seeing fans go rabid over something as petty as a mod. Ironically those same angry fans use the same kind of mods as the people they’re policing (aka being hypocrites).

You can voice your dislike over tasteless mods. I totally get that feeling of annoyance when I see others proclaim “this is how they should have been” when installing a mod that changes a character that I love.

Just please understand that those mods are just mods. They have no effect on cannon and potentially hurting someone over fiction is imbecilic. Those fictional characters don’t need their non existent feelings protected.

There's a bi mod for DAO that looks really good and I saw it and thought of your great m!CouslandxAlistair! There's even a video showing it and they change pronouns and it's so good. It's by adhd-bayonetta (they have a tumblr of the same name)

You mean this one?  I’ve had my eyes on it ever since it came out, but not had time to try it yet. But yeah, looks amazing and I’ll definitely get it for my next playthrough. :D

What's your opinion on people using bi mods to romance a character of the same sex? Like, to make a straight character bi rather than make a gay character bi?

Wow. I did not see that coming. I’m not used to get these kind of asks, wow.

But this question and these doubts were talked through multiple times in the fandom so I’ll probably won’t tell you anything new here.

Generally I do not think that changing the character’s sexuality is good, no matter what sexuality would that be. I personally never used any of those mods so far, even if sometimes I was tempted (e.g. Morrigan, I guess? I think it was her).

BUT there’s kinda big difference between bi mods for minorities and bi mods for straight characters, ESPECIALLY if these characters were hinted/coded to be bisexuals (e.g. Jaal, seriously, wtf). And if those characters were used to bait people as well… well, they should’ve seen it comming.

The point is - as many before me had stated - that representation for straights is OVERWHELMING while representation for minorities is still struggling most of times, so taking away small part of it doesn’t do much harm while changing sexuality of LGBT+ characters really really does. Making a gay character bi does not support bisexuals in any way and offends gay people by taking away something they fought really hard to get in the first place. And if it’s about the characters like Dorian then you not only takes away the representation, but you’re denying everything his character is build upon, and you’re basically denying the stuggle of people that identifying with him and his story. And that makes you homophobic.It’s slightly different for trans people I guess, but I do not feel entitled to speak for them here….

But that’s it, pretty much - straights are GRANTED these things while the rest of us still have to fight for it. We are constantly baited and we fall for it cause we belive the game developers will finally do things as they’ve promised only to see that we were fooled once more. So we have to fight for it… in any way we can.

I'm dreading when the bi mods inevitably come out for the gay and straight characters. As a bisexual person myself I hate those mods no matter who they're made for, and just thinking about them and the justifications people are already coming up with makes me sick. I'm scared. I feel like my sexuality is only seen by the fandom as a convenience when their faves turn out not be attracted to their sex of choice.

I hate them as well (edit: ONLY THOSE BI MODS FOR GAY AND LESBIANS). It’s an insult to everyone really but especially to gays and lesbians. 

I’m also annoyed by the whole “double standards” people who can’t ever understand the issues we might have with those and why those bi mods have deep irl ramifications. 

Let’s hope people will learn from what happened with the bi Dorian mod :/

Edit: misread the message about “no matter who they’re made for” - I have no problems with bi mods for presumed straight characters.

Hell, other fandoms do it all the time with their fay characters.' If it sounds wrong to do it to a gay character, please don't do it to a straight character.

I understand what you’re saying but Dorian was a really, really bad example to use being that his sexuality is a major part of his history and personality, and affects him in a lot of aspects of his life, such as his relationships.

I think there is a difference from doing it with a gay and a straight character, though I’m not sure if this is a good fandom to do it in for the reason that there is a severe lacking of LGBT+ representation. There’s absolutely no lacking of straight representation. 

A lot of the people who bend characters’ sexuality are either:

LGBT+ people who want characters who are like them

Fetishists 

One is an issue separate from this, but you’ll see that in bending a gay character’s sexuality, the first group is completely omitted because there are TONS of characters who are like them. Which leaves the fetishists who probably want to romance Dorian so they can have the sassy GBF boyfriend. He’s used as an item by a vast majority of the people I’ve seen who mod him straight, where a character headcanoned to be homo/pan/bi/ace is made that way to give the person something to grab onto and feel validated.

mortalitasibabe made a good point in a comment (Which I can’t reblog for some reason) in that the bi mods for Cullen and Solas seem to expand more on what Bioware wanted to do, and proven or not, I personally do think it was cut for time because Cullen and Solas were not SUPPOSED to originally be romance options, but added in as something of an afterthought. Originally, it was supposed to be two straight LI’s (Cassandra and Blackwall), two LI’s available to both sex Inquisitors (The Iron Bull and Josie), and two homosexual LI’s (Sera and Dorian).

Mods for bisexuality in both of them or headcanoning them as bi/pan/whathaveyou doesn’t erase their story (Like it does with Dorian) or really anything that is notable about them. Cullen even has dialogue in Dragon Age Origins that can be read as hinting to bisexuality (When you walk in on him being tortured as a mage, he says something along the lines of “You must have truly dug deep into my mind to bring HIM here,” which implies the mage warden has some significance to him).

Personally, I headcanon the two of them as bisexual (Well, Solas as pan, but that’s neither here nor there), but I don’t think any headcanon for them (Straight, bicurious, bisexual, pansexual, asexual) excluding homosexual for obvious reasons is necessarily wrong. Just a different way of interpreting them from an in-character and out-of-character standpoint.
