sorry, but some BL fans wild me up. a video just came across my TT feed of Joss and Gawin talking about their celeb crushes. they listed both men and women. and a comment with like a hundred up-votes was like "they really are straight 😭". their reasoning? because one of their answers was ryan gosling 💀 and only straight men like him... apparently.

A. that was right after they mentioned watching brokeback mountain and their joint crushes on heath ledger and jake gyllenhaal

B. this weird obsession some stans have with "proving" these actors are all secretly straight is so perverse? like if they are, who tf cares? unless they're heinously homophobic, that doesn't impact their ability to do their job. but also, it never feels enough to just take them at their word. this isn't some giant conspiracy theory, GMMTV isn't making them say they have crushes on men. plenty of their actors are in happy, hetero-facing relationships. i'm reminded of when everyone tried to say win metawin was straight bc they didn't like his acting in 2gether. like no, my man is a bicon, he just can't act!!! or sing. everyone said mew was queerbaiting and now he's engaged to a fucking man.

but lbr, these fans are often super homophobic and deem anyone who isn't Cooheart fruity a homophobic liar.

Here it is. Did someone predict this? Let's reply because this is an important topic.

Hi, anonymous (ofc) person! How's life? Let me break this down for easier digestion:

1st. I do get it. It stings when someone criticises smt you love (been there!). But the responsibility for that feeling lies with the person feeling it, not the reviewer. So, work it out.

2nd. I have enough respect for the BL genre to consider it a form of art. It worries me when you assume that an opinion that is not meant to glorify something must be hateful. If that were true, any critic (of cinema, theatre, food, music…) would be hateful, and that's absurd. Most things in life are grey - good sides, sides that could use some improvement. Criticism isn't hate, it's how art grows. Could you imagine if actors, directors, writers etc. never reflected critically on their own performance? Everything would stagnate. You are confusing fandom with art. You can be a fan of any kind of art, but art itself is not a fan club. @carterkbooks on Instagram explained it much better than I ever could, if you are curious.

3rd. I don't care if you like the show - enjoy it. Truly. I didn't make any comment on ppl who like it either. You are not obligated to have an opinion (or a critical one) about everything you watch (I don't). But that doesn't mean that someone who does is hateful.

4th. Here's a plot twist (this one might blow your mind, so sit down for it). You can love something and still be able to tell its flaws. The opposite of love isn't criticism. Indifference, perhaps. So, you can even be a fan and still be critical abt it, if you wish. Or who knows, even seeing why someone else might not like it, using the rare magic of empathy and cognitive flexibility. Crazy, I know.

5th. "in the show's tag"? xD Anonymous popcorn, where else would it go? Under Romeo and Juliette? hahaha That actually made me laugh, thank you.

To sum it up bc this is getting way too long: life fortunately is not made of unicorn farts. There will be people disagreeing with you and not liking the same things as you, and that's normal (not hateful).

the on1y one ig live

part of the cast and the director went live today on the series official instagram and unfortunately since I don't speak chinese i only understood a few things, but I'll share it here:

liu dong qin/zain eric (the actor for sheng wang) wasn't present, but the director called him during the live and he talked for a bit, even speaking some english thanking the international fans for the support

a second season is in the making, but it needs the approval of the production team + some buzz from the fans (i'm not really sure how us international fans could help)

they talked about more kissing scenes, kinda brushing off the topic so i don't think there's anything confirmed

the director said we will be seeing some butts soon 👀🍑 but he didn't say whose butt! lol

benjamin seemed really shy sometimes, he was often giggling and covering his face while the director spoke. he also held a cat on his lap for a brief moment (i'm not sure but i think it was the cat that appears in the series)

there will be a new character in the next episodes

and that's pretty much all i got 🥲 if anyone knows more about this livestream, feel free to add it to this post. unfortunately twitter is banned here in my country so i don't have other ways to discuss about this series 💔

Question for the masses: What country's BL style do you like the most?

For me it's Thailand. Their shows are pretty much exactly what I always wanted when I was a queer teenager. They're generally cheerful, a little silly, lots of singing(sorry, @absolutebl 😛), long form, with a guaranteed HEA and kissing that's getting progressively better by the year. My current top five BLs and all of the BL ships I've become obsessed with save one(Wangxian) have been from Thai shows.

Also, their first GL that's in the same style as most of their BLs is awesome so far.

So The Conversation has been keeping me company during my frantic final day before I need to print my initial thesis booklet, and now I have many more shows to watch as soon as I have a second to breathe.

I did almost scream when you guys announced Bad Buddy as the VIIB best BL of the year, because yes. (And Pat did get shot).

Very looking forward to the next installment next season.

Anyone who hasn't started listening to the podcast yet definitely should, because it's great. Ben and Nini have a lot to say, and are very funny. The discussion around all the minutia of the QL industry has been especially interesting!

Do you think there’d be a protocol or something to prevent the AI from finding out about influencing codes like that? I mean, they probably knew that it’d try to undo anything like that if it was aware of them...

...Though it IS Nakayama, and he’s not the best at planning.

Jack says it straight out from the beginning, (a'la Captain Scarlett): "This map is gonna lead us to a vault... and then I'll probably kill you" He's just such a charismatic asshole, it's easy to forget that last part.

Yup! Granted he didn’t know he was tied to Rhys at that point, but either way he was definitely planning on using him in some way or another. Whether via force or manipulation. 

I do think (if you give him what he wants) he does grow a little fond of Rhys over time, but not in the sense of another person. More like a toy that he’s not done playing with yet and likes having around. The fact that he actually talks to him about Angel surprised me, and he does seem hurt when Rhys rejects him. 

Though could also be because Jack’s a normally very chatty person, and Rhys was his only entertainment for so long. Plus an ego boost since Rhys was (potentially) a fanboy, but not as creepy or annoying as Nakayama or Vasquez and (again, potentially) easily manipulated to be useful.
