I think the thing that grosses me out about het women calling fanfiction "Boys love" "bl" or "Boy x boy" is that it literally infantalizes grown ass men into "boys". Especially uncomfortable is the way that people tend to use "Boy x boy" as some kind of warning to homophobes who might be grossed out, and who the writer often seems to respect more than the gay men they write about.
