A short birthday special: A Butler’s Gift
A/N: This is mostly fluff and it is pretty short, but I had a long day and am pretty tired. I do have some more things I’ll be posting tomorrow but for now, I hope you all enjoy this ✨🖤💞
When you returned, Sebastian was already waiting.
The manor was dark save for the faint glow of candles, dozens of them, arranged neatly along the dining table in the front hall. A porcelain tea set steamed gently, the scent of bergamot and something richer—chocolate, perhaps—drifting toward you. Beside it rested a small cake, elegant and immaculate, the kind you hadn’t the heart to make for yourself.
“You are late, my lady,” Sebastian murmured, gloved hands folded behind his back as he stepped into the light. His eyes gleamed in that way they always did—half amusement, half something far sharper. “But no matter. A true butler always prepares for every inevitability.”
You tried to speak, but fatigue weighed down your voice. He silenced you with the faintest smile, guiding you to the chair with a hand at the small of your back.
“Sit,” he said, tone soft but unyielding. “You’ve worked yourself ragged enough today. Allow me.”
The tea was poured with flawless precision, the cake sliced into perfect portions. But the true gift was in his quiet attention—the way he lingered at your side, the way he brushed a lock of hair from your cheek as though it were the most natural act in the world.
“Did you believe I would let the day pass unmarked?” Sebastian leaned closer, his voice low, velvety. “Your birth—the single event that ensures you exist for me to serve. For me to—” His lips curved, faintly dangerous. “—enjoy. It is hardly a day I would overlook.”
You met his eyes, your exhaustion softening beneath the weight of his gaze. For once, the world was quiet. Just you, Sebastian, and the slow burn of candlelight.
And though he would never admit it aloud, the gift was not the cake, nor the tea, nor even the perfection of his service.
It was his presence. All of it, devoted wholly to you.

→ I don’t think he’d care much about fairies. To him, they’re just lesser beings that don’t bother anyone much. He’d be very surprised you managed to find some though, because it’s not easy.
→ However, he dislikes the thought of you sneaking out at night. Intruders lurk around the mansion’s perimeter often and he doesn’t want to risk you getting hurt before he can do something - even if it’s unlikely. If you want to see the fairies, just ask him to take you there. He’ll gladly keep a distance, uninterested.
→ Will ask you about how you found them, what your thoughts are, and whatever else he might be curious about. To make the trip worth it at least, since he can’t get too close to them or they will probably flee.
→ Still, it’s kind of worth it to see you excited face in the dark; glowing with happiness and curiosity as you play around with the fairies.
