This one was bound with cotton rag watercolour paper in the Japanese stab binding method, covered in handwoven pure tusar silk, a remnant from an old Kurtra I bought in Bangalore, India. FIKA time and some reading on Wabi Sabi...which in simple terms "is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. It is a beauty of things unconventional." I've long been fascinated by the Japanese aesthete since growing up there and noticing the careful application of wabi sabi to interior design, ceramics, art, gardens, and life in general. In a world that has come to be filled with and value mass production, I see, admire, and am part of the movement to value the handmade, the organic, the unique and natural.
