One of the books I read this month and loved was Circling The Sun by Paula McLain. It is a historical fiction based on Beryl Markham, the first woman to fly solo, non-stop across the Atlantic from east to west. However, instead of focusing on her life as an aviator, McLain decided to make this book about her childhood and adulthood in Kenya, which of course includes the complicated love affair she had with Denys Finch Hatton whom also happened to be Karen Blixen’s (Out of Africa author) lover too. Just like McLain’s other book, The Paris Wife, I found this novel to be extremely well-researched and well-written. There were so many times I wanted to Google if certain events actually happened, For example, when Markham dated Prince Henry, the son of King George V of England. Yes, it’s a true fact! In my opinion, McLain did a fantastic job of blending facts with fiction. This book get 4/5 🌟 from me. And in case you are wondering, you don’t need to be on a trip in Africa to appreciate it. But hey, if you are headed that way, this one makes a great companion, especially if you don’t mind some unique animals visitors. While reading this out here on my deck I was often interrupted by monkeys, kudus, impalas and wild boars. 🙈🙉🙊 * * * * * * * * * * #circlingthesun #paulamclain @paula_mclain #bookwithaview #fromwhereiread #booksinnature #whatiread #momentsofjoy #vacationreads #readingissexy #quietmoments #discoverafrica #andbeyondphinda #takeyourbookoutdoors #whereiread #booksoutdoors #myreadingspot #booksoutofdoors #readingherethereanywhere (at Phinda Private Game Reserve) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnHUvdrjj6J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nypzqqvwf459
