Which male Harry Potter characters (in general) do you think are totally girl-dad coded, and which female ones do you think are boy moms?
Well, I can talk really confidently about girl!dad energy because I’m the daughter of a girl!dad myself, so I basically have a master’s degree in this. I’m not as well-versed in boy!mums, but well.
Girl!dads: Ron Weasley is 100% girl!dad coded. Rose is clearly his favourite, even if he tries to hide it, and he absolutely would’ve preferred to have a second daughter too, sorry Hugo, but the vibes are undeniable. Fred Weasley would’ve been that kind of dad as well if he’d survived, and Percy low-key has that energy too. Charlie never has kids, but he’s clearly girl!dad coded, same as Bill. The Weasleys in general give strong girl!dad energy because, let’s be real, they were six brothers and had a suffocatingly intense mum, so it makes total sense that guys like that would develop a need to have daughters lol.
Don’t ask me why, but Oliver Wood also gives massive girl!dad vibes, the kind who’s obsessed with his daughter becoming a Quidditch star.
And outside the Golden Trio generation, I’m absolutely going with Severus and Sirius as textbook girl!dads. Different reasons, totally different vibes, but 100% they’d both prefer girls, no contest. Severus is the type who just knows that if he ever had kids, he’d want a daughter. Sirius, on the other hand, thinks he’d prefer a boy, but then realises he was completely wrong and that having a daughter is objectively the best thing ever lmao
And female characters who are clearly boy mums Ginny, for sure. She prefers her sons by a mile and just functions better with boys, honestly. Luckily for her, her daughter is the only girl, so she gets her own solid place in the family hierarchy otherwise she would’ve had a rough time (and Harry is also more of a boy dad, and I will die on this hill). Hermione I see as more neutral —like, she’d be fine either way— but I do lean towards her being more of a boy mum in the sense that if her daughter didn’t turn out as a carbon copy of her, there’d probably be some struggles lol. Luna Lovegood is also a boy mum.
And then, in the previous generation, we’ve got Lily Potter, who 100% would’ve preferred a son over a daughter, same as her sister Petunia, who was thrilled it was a boy (both probably trauma-driven, let’s be real). And Narcissa Malfoy is absolutely a boy mum like, she’s got that child on a literal pedestal.
