Sorting my Brythonic Pantheon
I've been overwhelmed since getting into Celtic Paganism with all the many goddesses I feel drawn to but don't feel like I can be devoted to all of them. So I've done my best to decide on the main ones, keeping it to seven and corresponding as best I can to the days of the week.
I'm sticking to the five Welsh goddesses of the Avalonion tradition, lead by Jhenah Telyndru, along with two other Brythonic deities.
Sunday: Rhiannon. I view Her as the closest thing to a 'matriarch' or High Queen. She is connected to Modron, the Divine Mother, as well as the Dawn, so it seems fitting for Her day to be the start of the week.
Monday: Arianrhod. Though her connection to the Moon is a modern invention, I still feel it resonates with me, I also honour Her as the eternal Virgin (in defiance of Gwydion's mockery).
Tuesday: Blodeuwedd. Probably not a goddess people associate with Mars or 'Vikhelic' energies, but to me she is a goddess of passion and her owl-huntress form is as fierce as any warrior deity.
Wednesday: Cerridwen. Mam yr Awen. Lady of initiation, inspiration, transformation. She has the biggest Teacher energy to Her.
Thursday: Sulis. Goddess of Justice, linked to Minerva. I debated between keeping her or Brighid in my practice, especially as Brighid is linked to the other non-Welsh goddess in my path. But I just have a stronger bond with Sulis if having to pick a 'solar' goddess.
Friday: Branwen. A goddess of love in many forms, compassion and hope. I debated between Bloduewedd and Branwen for this day but I call to Branwen more for opening my heart despite the world's attempts to freeze it.
Saturday. The Cailleach. Grounding, temperance, the Crone. I grew very close to An Cailleach over this Winter and see Her as a form of the Dark Mother, as old as time itself.
So Dôn and Modron, who were part of my practice, are still present in a sense via Rhiannon's link to Modron, and Arianrhod being the daughter of Dôn. Creiddylad, who I was feeling called to, is still there but more through her link to Gwyn ap Nudd - there's no separating those two it seems. Andraste is the only one I've kind of stepped away from, feeling closer to Blodeuwedd as my 'Vikhelic' goddess - but I still may call on Her if need be and She is very much tied to were I live.
