I find it HILARIOUS how Poe is always helping Ranpo without any other context. Like, all the other reformed characters have clear end points, like Kyouka being a full-on agency member and Lucy working as a waitress. But what’s Poe doing there?😭😭 Is he getting paid for this? Is it freelance work? Or is he just in it for the thrill?
The agency is dealing with some wacky stuff, and there he is, casually sauntering in, like, “Hey, I’m here to help solve your issues because my ‘rival’ (boyfriend.. 🍩) asked me to.” then he just fucking dips????
Powdered doughnuts.. *COUGH COUGH* who said that????
NIKOLAI KNEW ABOUT FYODORS ABILITY!??! I don't know if I missed it and it was mentioned in the story or anything but nikolai wanted to kill fyodor however he never actively tried to kill him he made fyodor WILLINGLY take the lethal injection so it would be suicide
so does that mean he knew if he killed fyodor he would reincarnate? in himself?
people like to compare skk and sskk but i really don't think they have a similar dynamic
even if chuuya and dazai don't like each other, they still get along well enough. together in the port mafia, they could be semi-normal kids. playing in the arcade, empty bickering, working on projects together (albeit those projects typically have some degree of murder involved). chuuya is upset when dazai leaves the port mafia. he's gotten over it mostly by now, but sometimes, on late nights after drinking a bit too much with hirotsu and kajii, he cracks. he complains about dazai and calls in vain and he knows it's in vain because dazai never picks up but he still does it anyway cause, damnit, he misses the bastard. they build such a comfortable relationship together in 3 years, and after not seeing each for 4 they immediately slip back into the same routine. dazai provokes chuuya and chuuya reacts. chuuya entertains dazai and in turn dazai relaxes a bit. that is their dynamic, comfortable routine, stability.
i don't think atsushi and akutagawa get that same luxury.
they are consistently hurting each other. atsushi constantly degrades akutagawa and akutagawa is always physically hurting atsushi. it's a mutually abusive, co-dependent relationship and you can't change my mind. these two hate each other and they'll destroy the world for each other, destroy themselves for each other. atsushi spits venom at akutagawa and akutagawa punches back (which is ironic considering atsushi is most definatly physically stronger than akutagawa). they try to get along, try to understand each other, but it never sticks. despite that, despite the violence that their relationship is built upon, they still do everything they can to keep the other safe. it's a very "only i can hurt him" view from both atsushi and akutagawa.
tldr; sskk are mutually abusive during the day, then they do it again the same night but this time they're jerking each other off about it-
Chuuya's wardrobe and how it changes over the years truly is everything to me. He's on the streets, he wears a hoodie, a biker jacket covering the hoodie, and jeans. He joins the mafia and gets a hat. He immediately gets a fancy outfit to accommodate said fancy hat. He loses the hat, and then he wears the standard suit, but different, cuz he's Like That™. Then it's back to the hat, but also back to the biker jacket. Then it's the fancy outfit. Then it's a fancy biker jacket. Seriously, his wardrobe is such a perfect representation of his character. I love him.
Something something Dazai has ADHD, Ranpo has AuDHD and Fyodor has Autism
I wonder if Edogawa Ranpo from BSD has AuDHD: his attention to details and noticing what other people don’t leans into Autism but he has no strict rules or schedule, or heavy masking, meanwhile his ADHD is shown through eating sweets (common addiction pattern) to keep himself stimulated and his openness that appear as rude to people and openly disliking things is very ADHD-coded.
Spoilers for Cannibalism Arc, Fyodor's ability and ending of BSD Part 1.
This also made me think deeply of the trio’s dynamic: how Dazai facing Fyodor into psychological and intellectual battles made me see their differences even though they match intellectually. Dazai had mentioned that Ranpo sees more things that he can: this means that if Dazai trained more or hyperfixated into becoming a better detective, he could but he would still fall behind Ranpo because Ranpo is naturally drawn to details and nuances, he sees the pattern while Dazai sees the thrill.
This also explains why Ranpo dislikes playing smart games with Dazai and especially with Fyodor who is purely Autistic, where as Ranpo has both Autism and ADHD. Ranpo made a slip-up at the Cannibalism Arc because he put Fyodor into “default human” parameters and failed to see that Fyodor doesn’t follow societal conformity and won’t hesitate to use any means possible to reach his goals. Fukuchi is neurotypical and was fooled by Fyodor while was easily read by Ranpo.
Since Ranpo has been surrounded mostly by standard, mostly neurotypical people, he didn’t really have many things that challenge his brain, therefore his growth was slow, and since facing Dazai and Fyodor is a MASSIVE challenge, his ADHD side of brain easily gets agitated/frustrated and thus cloud his mind, only a little but it’s enough for the other two to trick him.
Since Dazai also doesn’t bother with societal conformity, Fyodor had to be careful at tricking Dazai, so he played on assumptions, which is why Dazai mistakenly assumed that Fyodor’s ability is related to touch where as in truth his ability has to do with death, Fyodor did a great job tricking Dazai and Ranpo. Although, I would doubt he knew everything, he also relied on luck especially when he took over Bram’s body.
I've made posts on it in the past but I still stand by it even if It may be controversial. I know many people want Akutagawa to be healed of his illness. Honestly though, I think healing Akutagawa right now wouldn't be the best thing.
Akutagawa's illness is something deeply intertwined with him it's a core aspect of his character, it's represented all throughout his design, you can see it effect his motivations, as well as how he views himself and others, not to mention that it's based on the real illnesses his irl counterpart suffered with.
It's been such a deep rooted struggle that I can't help but feel a sudden vampirism or Atsushi's blood cure would come off incredibly cheap. Especially after he confessed his illness and sacrificed himself for Atsushi. That scene always read to me like him being content to die early because he was going to die soon anyway, as heroic as it is, it's also tragic cause he's throwing what's left of his life away.
Maybe it's just me but cause that and his arc of learning to value life, i think it'd be more impactful to have him learn to cherish what's left of his own despite his illness rather than just taking it away.
guys (talking to the wall) do you understand that kunikida is a tragic character with layers of trauma and struggles that he will never resolve without the help of someone that loves him
IMAGINE Trey Clover in bsd, it's probably kinda.. chaotic?
OEMJI, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA!.
if Trey is in BSD, his UM prob will be misunderstood as Abilities, instead of "Doodle suit", he probably change the name to "Painted ivory clovers", to fit in!.
since Trey is very very very Big brother coded, he will be the big brother figure for the kids! [happy].
and he's fitting in ADA ofc.
list of self proclaimed Trey's little siblings :
-Kenji
-Kyōuka
and Atsushi.
Trey and Ranpo will get along quickly, if Trey is having difficulties in lines of cases or puzzles, Ranpo will maybe.. help him, but in payment of sweets from Trey.
Trey have infinity patience! if he can handle Riddle's behavior, so does Dazai's whines, Kunikida's yelling.
him and Kunikida will have that "uncle and nephew" bond.
