Matthew proceeded to study me with the rapt attention of a cartographer who found himself on the shores of a new world. I tried to keep up with him, wanting to discover his body while he was discovering mine, but he held my wrists firmly against the pillows. When I began to complain in earnest about the unfairness of this situation, he found an effective way to silence me. His cool fingers dipped between my legs and touched the only inches of my body that remained uncharted.

‘Matthew,’ I breathed, ‘I don’t think that’s bundling.’ ‘It is in France,’ he said complacently, a wicked gleam in his eye.

Bundling French style may not be entirely in the spirit of the thing but it looks much fun, that's for sure. Diana certainly seems pleased.

Let us explore the dating scene in Colonial America. It was hella cold so couples would “bundle.” That meant getting in bed, fully clothed, bundled up in blankets and being separated by a “bundling board,” in the girl’s home, b/c there was no messing about, back then.

The girl’s parents would tie her feet and place her in a “bundling bag,” for extra protection.

The girl’s parents would be there, too, as the couple “got to know each other.”

Sometimes, the whole damned family was there. 

This is clearly a reenactment, b/c you do not come over the board. 

If bundling failed to keep two lovers apart, and the couple somehow managed to be expecting, the decision to marry was made for them; shotgun weddings protected their morality.
