From this position one can do one of two things: return directly into a power-up, so to speak, or doing a push-up prior to that. One can yet go all way down to the floor, touching the belly on the mat / floor and then powering up - on this last case, one doesn't really does a push-up, but more of a press-up, and this one the so-called 'competition burpee' variation. This last variation is easier on the upper-body strength but harder on the cardio. From the push-up or press-up or either one or the other, one brings the legs back to the front again (the power-up I was mentioning) and jumps up in a straight vertical jump (arms up). That is the challenge I'm doing every other day on my rest days, or whenever I feel like sparing some energy ;) I try to do this even before my morning coffee, because that way I start burning off some fat right before any 'food' gets into my stomach :) Zuzka says that these fifty burpees will take one about four minutes, and indeed they take me around three minutes and a half. My last best time was 3 min. and 16 sec. ;) Is expected, naturally, that one takes short periods of rest / recovery in between repetitions as the repetitions start to get harder and of course, according your fitness level so far as well - if one is not familiarized with this exercise yet is preferable to start slow and perform five, ten repetitions at a time, for instance, on the easier variations (without the push-up, for instance, or even with a knee push-up - a push-up made off of ones knees - if one's not used to doing push-ups too). This being said, the burpee is actually a great exercise for one to start working out, when that's the case! Personally I'm used to burpees for many years to this part :)
The most important thing while performing a burpee is that one keeps good posture so one avoids any sort of injury. Personally when I do this challenge I don't even warm-up first, but for those of you less familiar with workout in general I wouldn't recommend that.
