Weekly exercise! Thanks to @hoshino.armory for filming me during my 1km run. Well, I had to split the 1km to run and walk because I wore the wrong shoe. But overall, tons of fun, the kids around the park loved it!!! (So happen that there was a junior soccer tournament going on, so there was no shortage of audience!) Best cardio workout! Wyvern larp swords

Back in 2016 when the Wyvern larp swords first came out I wrote my own opinions on them, as something that was clearly a good thing but in baby shoes and needs to improve.

Since then I got another hand and a half sword from them and this year at drachenfest bought two one handed swords, and what I can tell you is I like them more and more. Here they are with three calimacil swords for comparison.

First of all, in the last three years the wyvern swords went through a few generational changes. My two longsowrds tip broke off again, but they replaced it both times, and upgraded the blade for the newer ones. so their customer service is still A+

Now about the new swords.

I bought one messer (with a blood painting on it) and a small cuttlas/sidesword/whatever for my girlfriend and here are the experience with them after a few month of use.

They are simply better to use than any other larp swords I had so far.

Since the first versions their core tend to flex better, but not too much. The tip protection also got better, and while I’m still not sure about the double edged sword’s tip protection, the single edged versions are thicker at the false edge so more material at the tip too, hence less likely that the tip will get damaged. Safety is good enough, though some would obviously say that it hits too hard. But guys, the handling is wonderful, feels right, balance is optimal, really the closest thing I got so far with a larp sword that feels like a real one. Another upside is that Wyvern is ready to deal with the ocassional damage with your weapon. For 20 euro I think they can completely change your damaged blade.

Durability is so far up to the challange. We usually have two training per week where these get used too, and already survived a drachenfest, and another larp, plus we go to other events to hold swrodfighting things for kids and random people. All in all it get used a lot, and still in one piece.

But obviously it’s not perfect for everything.

I mentioned that the safety is enough for me, but obviously won’t be enough for everything as we are all different. Part of the safety of this weapon comes from that it can be controlled way better, and won’t be a wibbly-wobbly mess where you stop the sword but the end still do a whiplash. Also I’m not entirely sure about the tip protection completely so another reason why I won’t give it to a random stranger to play like an idiot with it. 

This means it’s not good as a high usage weapon that is for others to borrow. That place is still for calimacil in my eyes as they withstand so much damage and so durable while still remain safe that it’s hard to compete with them in that regard. Like the color taped calimacil swords on the pics were already went through literally thousands of idiot’s hands and they are still in one piece and no lasting injury occurred while using them.

But for a personal weapon that looks good, feels good and could be effectively used? Wyvern for sure.

They totally bought me with their quality. And just a side note: It’s one thing that I finally found a larp messer at wyvern that is actually usable and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg AND being durable. The wyvern messer’s nagel ACTUALLY protects your hand. Like, holy shit, the nagel isn’t made of the bendy-bondy-fuckit material that is just there for looks. No, the nagel on this larp sword will actually stop another larp sword from hitting your fingers.

And lastly a few words about the price: The wyvern messer is officially 120 euro A calimacil weapon of comaprable size, for example a long sangious II is 71 euro. Though we all know that in the past few years calimacil shipping fees skyrocketed and they are being fuckwits with it while shitting at you in customer service so there is that. So a not that nice looking calimacil which is more durable could be cheaper and better to build up a stock of weapons that others can borrow. For personal use I would still choose the Wyvern Replica weapons and probably buy a few more in the future.
