to this day i can't quite explain what it is about the kidnapping/long-term captivity trope that fascinates me. maybe it's just the microcosm of one person having nearly godlike power over your life and struggling to fight back against it, escape from it, and/or be rescued from it. something like that.

proof of life photos of abducted whumpee and there's just... hints. nothing overt, but hints that something sexual is happening. their pants are undone. not pulled down, not ripped, just undone. there's a strange stain somewhere on their body. there's a sex toy in the background, just a little too close to whumpee's bound body. the gag in their mouth is obviously from a sex store, which... could mean nothing. their shirt is riding up and there's part of a handprint bruise on their hip. there's a hickey or a bite mark on their neck, mostly hidden by their collar. they're not overt, not front and centre. but the hints are there. whumpee's team/friends can put together what's going on.

because captivity isn’t just being held in a place it’s so much more. it’s a microcosm of death. you are forcibly removed from the people who love you and the life that you live (by dying or by being trapped somewhere you do not want to be). you become an object (because you’re a corpse or because you’re no longer treated as human). losing all control and having your life being dictated by someone or something else. you don’t even have to be physically unable to leave a place. a marriage can be a form of captivity. blackmail is a form of captivity. it is isolation and claustrophobia and stagnation. repeating the same day over and over and over again, unable to create new experiences, like a timeloop, cycles upon cycles.

and the scars. the way that once you get out the only thing you can think is “I’m never going back, ever again.” and it lingers. you can be the safest person in the world and you’ll always be scared of going back. you’ll do anything to never go back. the worst suffering you choose will always be better than being trapped.

The team forces their way inside and discovers where Whumpee’s being held. They're chained to the wall, gagged and blindfolded. Bruised, bleeding, scared, left that way as a warning for their rescuers.

Whumpee’s pants are undone and askew on their hips, revealing a sliver of their underwear. Ashamed, the first thing Whumpee tries to do once untied is pull their pants back up, but they're too weak or injured to do so. Someone else has to help them.

Just. The intimacy and awkwardness of someone else helping you button your own pants after you've been violated like that. The fact that no words have to be exchanged for everyone in the room to understand exactly what happened to Whumpee.

Thinking about the transportation part of kidnapping. The logistics of it: keeping the cargo secure and portable while avoiding detection. Threats? Restraints? Mode of transport?
