can you make a fanfic about newt loving reader so much, but she's been rambling to him about how much she loves minho, and minho (surprisingly) doing the same to newt, and newt just cant take it anymore so he tries to be supportive and helps them get together? then once he thinks he's given up, he soon meets the greenie thomas, falls in love, then following the movie canon, realizes he has the flare and writes the same letter. except in that letter includes a confession. guess when newt gave the letter? when he was dying. oof. newt is canonically pansexual, and this au/canon diverence fic is based off of the song i bet on losing dogs

is it okay if i do gn!reader? otherwise that sounds so awesome!!

day 4 of Resha’s ( @inkstainsonmysheets ) birthday countdown!!!

Resha loves coffee and xander hawthorne, so i thought why not combine the two and make a x reader one shot for her!

Tell me sweet nothings

xander x barista!femreader

The first time it happened, he didn’t even notice it until he had already gotten home.

Xander had gotten a sudden and aggressive craving for scones on his way home after school, and in his need had gone to the closest cafe, The Ink Stain (interesting name for a coffee shop, but he certainly wasn’t judging).

The outside of the cafe was brick, with lots of windows. Through the glass you could see warm fairy lights strung through the shop and a wall of books. It created a warm, inviting feel that pulled him in like a magnet.

He pushed through the door, and was met with a delicious scent of coffee and pastries wafting straight at his face. Xander’s mouth watered, and he quickened his pace to the counter.

He ordered an iced latte with extra chocolate and caramel flavoring, and a blueberry scone. As soon as they called his name, he grabbed his order and left, in a hurry to get home to finish his latest goldberg machine.

Eating the scone was like tasting happiness. The flavor was sweet and had that perfect slight tartness, and he wanted a million of them. The coffee was good too, and he could already feel the sugar hitting his system in just the right way. Xander stared down at his order in amazement, and noticed writing on the side of his coffee cup.

“Enjoy your liquid heart attack.”

For a second he just stared, extremely confused. Was he being poisoned or something? It obviously couldn’t be referring to his order, that was a normal amount of sugar to have!

Xander shook it off, opting to focus on how best to chicken-ify Grayson. It faded into the background of his thoughts, and he didn’t think of it again.

Except it kept on happening.

The Ink Stain became his favorite cafe, and he went frequently. But every time he ordered something, Xander would find a sarcastic comment on his cup insinuating he consumed an unhealthy amount of sugar.

It was ridiculous! An absurd accusation! He needed to find the person writing these messages, and bring them to justice!

So he made a plan. A little manipulation, a dare, and his brothers would be the perfect way to find this person.

“Order for a…Captain sparkle swagalicious pants???”

Xander bounced up to the counter to grin enthusiastically at the barista. He notes the pen in her hand, and knows he’s caught his accuser.

“That’s me!” As he continued smiling at the barista, he could hear his brothers snickering from where they watched from behind him, making sure he fulfilled his end of the dare. It was a bit useless, he would never back down from a dare, but at least they were all together (brotherly bonding for the win!). Besides, he had literally done this on purpose.

The barista held out his order, amused exasperation clear on her face. She looked him up and down, seemingly judging him (of course, all she did was judge him and his sugar intake). Their eyes met, and all of a sudden butterflies unraveled in his stomach. 

Huh…

He shook off the feeling, and reached out to grab his scones and drink (luckily he had gotten to choose his order for the dare), sending a conspiring smile her way.

“Sadly, my pants are neither sparkly nor swagalicious, but these are adjectives that are frequently used to describe me,” Xander said with a simpering grin. 

The barista huffed out a laugh, and rolled her eyes. Xander didn’t know why, but something about that sound sent a warm swooping feeling swirling through his chest.

“If Captain sparkle swagalicious pants isn’t your name,” an almost coy look came across her face, “Then what is?”

Xander blinked, momentarily stunned. Someone who…didn’t know who he was? A flicker of unease sparked in his gut, before the knowing and mischievous look on the barista’s face wiped it out. She definitely did know, then.

He beamed back at her, willing to play along.

“I am afraid I cannot disclose this information,” he paused dramatically, an overly-solemn look appearing on his face, “And as you will never be able to find out through other means, I suppose you will never know!” 

“Oh, what an intriguing and mysterious stranger who’s name is definitely not known around the world!” She hesitated for a second, becoming slightly somber. “It must be a stressful way to live…”

Xander looks back at her, and feels a strange sense of vulnerability, like she has peeled back layers of his very being through one singular tap. She’s right, but nobody ever acknowledges that part of being so famous. They only focus on the flashy, fun bits, so Xander in turn became flashy and fun so that they would focus on him. Maybe then they wouldn’t fixate on the color of his skin, of how he looked so obviously different from his brothers. 

They’ve only just officially met, but the way this stranger went along with his antics and was able to understand him has made him want to know her better (to correct her on her opinion of his sugar intake. obviously). It feels like they are frozen in a small pocket of time, away from noise and people and the hardships of life. 

He smiles at her, and if it is with a touch of sadness nobody but the two of them will ever know.

“Well,” Xander begins softly, “Maybe strangers could become acquaintances instead? Could I…could I have the honor of learning your name?” By the end of it, his usual upbeat voice is back. He is, of course, asking for her name because he needs to find the perpetrator, obviously.

She smiles softly back at him, and tilts her head, fidgeting absentmindedly with her apron.

“My name is [Name]. And maybe we could.”

Suddenly, his brothers are calling his name and one of [Name]’s coworkers is trying to get her attention, and time unfreezes.

[Name] catches his eye, gives him a smirk.

“Come back again sometime? I’ll be here at the same time tomorrow. Ready with your exorbitant amounts of sugar.”

Xander Hawthorne lives a life with the people around him constantly playing games, and he is no expectation. But he feels like maybe, just maybe, there'll be no games with [Name]. 

So he decides to give it a shot, to let the hope and exhilarating unsteadiness he feels bloom.

“I’ll see you then. WIth my perfectly normal amounts of sugar.”

 They share one more grin, and let themselves be pulled away.

Glimpse of us

this is my first time writing fanfic, and I wanted to make it so that you can read it on tumblr too in case you can't on ao3 <3

Chapter 1: Double take

summary: It's been a week in the safe haven, a week since Newt had died, a week since Thomas had killed him, and strange things start to happen. Thomas starts seeing Newt, even hearing his voice. Then, the most impossible thing happens.

It all started with a glimpse. It was a week of being in the safe haven, a week of being safe, which Thomas could finally start to believe. And maybe that’s why he started seeing Newt, because he had started letting his guard down. It was impossible, what he was seeing though, because Newt was dead, and he knew that for sure because he himself had been the one to kill him. The first time he saw newt he had been at breakfast, when he had seen a tall, lanky yet still muscular blonde figure leaning against one of the mess hall tent poles. He had done a double take and realized it was just Sonya, even though the figure had been nearly half a foot taller. He could’ve sworn that, last time he checked, Sonya didn’t have the ability to grow taller and shorter in less than a second. He had stayed up too late last night though, what with the bonfire and not being able to close his eyes because all he saw was Newt's dead body, so his vision was probably just messing with him. He brushed off the déjà vu, and continued on with his day. 

The next time it happened though, it was harder to ignore. He definitely heard someone say, 

”Tommy”, just like he used to. But that wasn’t even possible because he was on his morning run the day after the first incident with no one else around, as Minho had gotten sick the day before and couldn’t come. He decided he just needed to rest, so he sat and took a swig from the flask hung across his hips. When he looked up again he was standing right in front of him. He blinked and rubbed his eyes, but Newt wasn’t disappearing. Thomas sprang up and took off running, feet pounding ungently on the rough dirt ground. Looking back, he saw Newt had disappeared, but when he turned his head back to the path before him, he suddenly was everywhere. Trees that were just trees before had transformed into the shape of his friend. Thomas felt like he was going insane, like he was being punished for the knife that had sunk into Newt's chest, for pulling a trigger on his too short life. He ran and ran until he was at the beach,until it hurt to breathe, and then he collapsed on his knees by his favorite boulder, choking down air. He couldn’t take it anymore, had barely been able to the days before this whole mess, and he just broke. He shouted at the sky, so loud that the birds in the nearby trees startled and flew away.

“Why can’t you just leave me alone??? why can’t you leave me, leave me just like how I left you???”

He crumbled in on himself, sobbing as he sank to the sand to curl into a ball. Why did he have to keep on seeing, keep on being reminded of his friend whom he had killed? Weren’t his dreams, more specifically nightmares, enough? He just wanted to forget all the pain he had caused, all the pain he himself had felt. As he started getting sucked into his own mess of dangerous thoughts, he froze. Thomas could feel a warm, soft touch on his shoulder, so gentle it felt like steam from a hot shower caressing his sleeved shoulder. So someone had finally found him. Maybe it was Minho, who had decided to be stupid and run anyways, or Brenda, who loved the beach. It could even be Gally, though he wasn’t really the touchy-feely kind. No, it was the kind of gentle touches that only he had ever seemed to have, in a world of rough and tough. Ugh, now people would be even more concerned about him than before. Everyone had been treating him like a fragile vase, tip-toeing around anything that they thought would set him off. Which, it turned out, was everything in their opinions. Shame sealed his eyelids tight shut, and he unfolded himself from his pity-party for one position and turned his head, eyes still closed, fingers rubbing the tender spot on his forehead, to where he thought the person was. He let out a timid and sheepish, “Hey…” when the person responded with a, 

“Hey Tommy”, in a bright, familiar accent. Thomas opened his eyes in shock. Standing there before him, shimmering in an odd blurry way, was him. 

“Newt…?” Newt, or at least this new image of Newt, smiled gently at him in response. Then everything started going black, and Thomas felt gritty, rough sand on his face, before the soft velvety blackness that had taken his vision took away all feeling. He heard an affectionate, slightly exasperated,

“Oh Thomas, you bloody shank” before everything drifted away.
