Tentang "open minded". Kenapa seringkali saya mendapati orang-orang yang menjadikan agama sebagai landasan berpikir di anggap tidak "open minded"? Selalu saja jika ada orang yang membawa-bawa agama di anggap tidak "open minded", terlalu kaku.

Memangnya "open minded" itu kalau kita pro pada kebebasan ya? Ketika manusia boleh bertingkah semaunya tanpa boleh di atur-atur oleh siapapun bahkan Tuhan sekalipun? Ketika manusia menganggap bahwa yang berhak memberi peringatan bukan manusia lainnya tapi hanya Tuhan? Ketika manusia menganggap dosa yang ditampakkan ke khalayak banyak tetap tidak boleh ada yang meluruskan? Kenapa kesannya jadi membiarkan yang sesat senakin berkembang ya 😔

Kalau begitu baru di anggap "open minded", lebih baik saya di anggap tidak "open minded", karena saya cenderung menggunakan sudut pandang agama saya dalam menilai sesuatu dan juga sebagai landasan berpikir.

Almost Outed Myself

Just to preface this story, I’m a broke high school girl who has for the past couple of months found self purpose in the form of Pagan ideology. Since I have no money most time I reuse wax from old tealights, candles, wax melts, wax donation from friends and the what-not. I use a double broiler to do so and it works pretty damn well for me.

My parents were out and about yesterday evening and I decided it would be a great time to make some tea lights since my old ones were almost dead and were ready to be made into new ones. I get everything heated up and the wax starts melting in the double broiler and it going perfectly. So I thought.

I see the lights from my mother car come in through a from window and I start scrambling to get stuff cleaned up. (I had a cutting board out and was cutting this massive candlestick that was donated to me from a friend and little bits of wax were everywhere) I get the not so normal stuff out of the way and kept going about my business making tealights. My parents walk in. They see I have a double broiler. The tension has arisen.

My parents are good ol’ country bumpkin shit kickers that are ready to move into the country. (we are in the process of moving so I have a lot of my altar packed away for safety reasons) They also happen to be not so open minded when it comes to religion, sexuality, or anything I am. My stepfather who is the worse of the pair says “what are you double broiling” and I reply “I’m making tealights” he scoffs and goes to sit down on the couch to watch some tv. My mother doesn’t really care since I had recently made one of my teachers a whole big ass candle for his birthday.

Everything is complete. The wax is melted and ready to be put into a plastic container I have from other tea light that I use to make more tea lights. I put the mixture of wax melts and candles and what not into the container for it to cool. I clean up what’s left of my mess and clean the wax from the measuring glass that I use for the double broiler. No mess, no problem right? Wrong.

My stepfather typically just lets me go about my business without saying much. Not tonight. As I’m passing him to go up the stairs and go to my room he stops me and says

“Why are you bringing all of that into your room?”

To which I reply “Because I can’t leave it down here?”

I think he senses something is up because he’s been in my room recently to measure stuff and I have little bits and pieces of my alter up, old tea lights, fake flowers, dried rose petals, my pretty rocks, etc. he might not though he’s kinda has a selective memory. Anyway, he replies “you don’t burn that stuff do you?”

“No I make the for friends that ask me and they bring back the old ones and I make new ones.” That wasn’t really a lie I have made tea lights and wax melts for friends but this time was not for friends. It was for my altar. I make my somewhat clean escape to my room and let the bigger tealight continue to cool. That was a very close call.
