Here's Nina, Crowley-coded in her yellow and auburn, offering Maggie, Aziraphale-coded in her teal blue, a choice between mint or chamomile -- Hell green or Heaven blue.
I'm not certain what this means, but damn. Every scene is doing double- and triple-duty.
The Reds can deal in the bloodier aspects (Red Hood and Red Robin (Batwoman)). The Blacks deal with the fear factor -they're the Nightmare icons (Batman and Black Bat (Batwoman)). The Blues are the main friendly, personal, PR guys (Nightwing, Spoiler/Batgirl, Bluebird).
Robin is colorful as if to say they haven't settled on the color/roles yet. The Batgirls usually already have their own color code when they start (Barbara was blue), and I believe that's because each one became Batgirl already knowing what role they want to be in, which match since Batgirls are almost always older than the Robins.
They eventually get this habit of, "oh, hey, someone needs to deal with this." "Send in the reds." "What about this?" A black and a blue should do the trick."
Fun fact, did you know color symbolism and meaning can be applied to eye color and, sometimes, hair color? This is especially the case with anime since they use so many vibrant and different colors that aren’t necessarily naturally occurring. Artem is kinda weird out of the male leads of Tears of Themis because both his eye color and hair color are naturally occurring shades.
So Artem’s got blue eyes which is possibly the eye-color with the most songs about it. There are also quite a few protagonists, anime/manga and otherwise, with blue eyes. This could be in part due to the fact that blue eyes are a mutation. Interestingly enough, the blue-eyed mutation can be traced all the way back to one individual, the first person with blue eyes. In terms of color symbolism blue-eyes can imply innocence and peacefulness. Blue-eyed characters are often calm, intelligent, and good at analyzing things. These characters are often not easily swayed by their emotions which makes MC’s affect on Artem all the more delightful.
Hair color-wise brown is, unfortunately, rather uninteresting in terms of symbolism (not say I dislike the hair color! I love brown hair!). Brown-haired characters are typically reliable, warm-hearted, ‘safe’ characters. For the most part brown-haired characters represent normality and following society's expectations. Brown is a frequently used color in anime and other genres of entertainment largely because it is such a safe color.
While Artem’s colors might be a little less ‘fantastic’ I think that really fits him as a character. In many ways he does stay more to the background, keeping his emotions, thoughts, and talents more to himself. He adds a dash of normality, though that isn’t to say he’s not amazing. He is, he just keeps it more on the down low than some of the others. This could also imply other things about his character of course. It is not uncommon to color code a character to seem like one thing and make the exact opposite for the surprise factor. In this case Artem, who has been presented as a very normal, safe character would turn out to have some less than normal quality.
Color-coded flashcards for my upcoming European history midterm. It covers units 1-2 and the beginning of unit three, so in terms of time, 1450-1850. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was nervous, but I’ve been studying basically 8 hours a day for the past three days, so I think I’ll do the best I can do.
