is it just me or is ADHD forgotten / erased . like .. my friends noticed my ADHD symptoms and asked me if I'm autistic . which 'm not . when I talk about having ADHD no one takes me seriously . when I talk about ADHD symptoms people will be like 'oh haha my autism does that too' okay cool but I was talking about ADHD . not autism . I don't have autism . autism and ADHD aren't the same . ADHD is different from autism . they don 't have the same diagnostic criteria . they don 't cause all the same issues . not everyone is a little ADHD . if you have adhd that doesn't automatically mean you 're autistic and vice versa . often , ADHD and autism are misdiagnosed with one another . but they are not the same . when I bring up having ADHD , people ask 'are you sure you 're not just austistic and got a misdiagnosis? a lot of autistic people get misdiagnosed with ADHD ' but when I thought I was autistic [due to EVERYONE AROUND ME INSISTING MY ADHD WAS AUTISM] no one gave me the vice versa . guys . ADHD is here too . it 's not a little disorder and it 's not 'easier than autism' it 's not harder than autism it 's hard in its own ways . autism is hard I 'm very sure . but ADHD is also so , so , so hard .
the need to make so , so many friends but being too weird to make them or the opposite - making so many friends that you can 't balance them , you get burnt out , you cut off , and they push you away .
the need to always be moving . getting told 'stop tapping your foot' and you stop and then people are telling you to stop clicking your pen . getting told not to talk so fast , so rapidly . getting made fun of for stuttering due to your mind moving too fast for your mouth to catch up . not being able to finish a single train of thought and you realise the conversation started with talking about old us presidents , so why are you explaining why your eyes close when you sneeze ? getting told you 're so smart or so dumb your whole life and it 's just subject to what you fixated on in childhood . telling your friends about your new hyperfixation and them putting it down but instead of being just upset , just distraught , just depressed , the stronger emotions and rejection sensitive dysphoria makes it so your world is crumbling . it 's stressful for people without adhd to get shut down but for people with hightened emotions or rejection sensitivity dysphoria [which are both symptoms of ADHD] it can ruin the next several years .
the inability to make or follow routine . actually - you can make routine . you can follow it . you love that routine . you love it so much ; you get a dopamine hit every time you follow it . for about the next two weeks . then it gets boring . you aren 't getting dopamine from it anymore . suddenly , you can 't find it in you to continue with it . you abandon it with the other tens of routines you 've tried .
people with adhd can 't form habits . it can take about 3 years minimum for a person with adhd to form a solid habit and that can go away at any time . I still forget to brush my teeth and hair and put on deodorant in the morning and i've been doing that for almost 8 years .
the heightened empathy . people with adhd have stronger empathy . pair that with the hyperfixation upon people and stronger emotions ? you see a friend crying and suddenly you hate yourself ; why can 't you help , why are they hurt , you 're hurting , you can 't help , they 're hurting why can 't you fix it
the pattern recognition . makes tasks easy but makes things stimulating for people without adhd understimulating . watching the first five minutes of the movie and then knowing the ending and all the plot twists , not being surprised by anything . getting antsy because you know the end of a sentence before your friend has finished saying it , and the next three lines and your responses , but you can 't say anything because then you 'll be interrupting .
the difficulty with social cues paired with the pattern recognition . it 's a coin toss to whether you can tell what someone needs or not .
The Noise . it always Fills Your Brain doesn 't it . have you ever heard Silence in Your Mind ?
the kleptomania coming with the lack of impulse control . but you don 't know you 've nabbed anything until you 're already in another room .
getting told you have no filter but that 's not true . having no filter means having a thought then saying it without thinking about how it will affect people . you have a filter . yours is just broken and you 're saying the words before you 've had the thought and you 're saying the words while begging your mouth to stop because no , this is not the thing to say , stop it , this will hurt them , please stop talking
and soo much more
guh sorry for ranting and obviously I'm not trying to argue that ADHD is worse than other disorders but I'm so TIRED of people saying ADHD isn't hard or everyone 's a little ADHD or bs like that or saying ADHD is the same as autism because I assure you people with autism and no ADHD could not relate to all of the things on that list . obviously a lot of this is coming from my own experience but yea
