Hero x Villain Turned Good
The days of Hero and Villain fighting are over. Hero has convinced Villain to join the Heroes’ side. Hero and Villain’s relationship has never been better. But when Hero takes a hit for Villain in a battle and is delirious on painkillers, it’s going to take all of Villain’s patience to keep it that way.
Villain sat in a chair by Hero’s bedside, occasionally turning a page in the book they were reading. Hero slept soundly, their breathing deep and even. Villain buried their nose deeper in their book, they couldn’t bear the sight of Hero hooked up to so many leads and covered in bandages. Without warning, Hero jolted upright in bed. They looked around wildly until their eyes fell on Villain.
Here we go again, Villain thought.
“Where am I?” Hero demanded.
“Our base, Hero,” Villain answered calmly.
“You can’t trick me that easily, Villain, I know you’ve kidnapped me!” Hero yelled weakly, “Give this up and join me, you still have time to change!”
Villain pinched the bridge of their nose, this was the third time this morning that Hero had given this little speech.
“Hero, I haven’t kidnapped you,” Villain said gently, “I’ve already joined your side.”
“Oh.” Hero tilted their head to one side, “you have?”
“Oh,” Hero yawned, “awesome. That’s great…”
Hero’s eyes fluttered shut. Villain slipped an arm behind their back before they could crash against the pillows. Villain leaned Hero back gently until they were laying down once again. Villain went back to reading their book. They were just reaching the good part when Hero jerked awake again.
“Yep, that’s me,” Villain sighed.
“You can’t keep me here forever, I’ll find a way to escape!”
This is getting old, Villain thought, maybe a different tactic…
“How do you plan to escape, Hero?” Villain asked.
“By having you join me- it’s not too late to change!”
“Alright, Hero, you’ve convinced me,” Villain said, “I’ll join your side.”
“Really?” Hero asked excitedly.
Hero was having trouble keeping their eyes open. Villain took Hero’s shoulder and gently pushed them back down into the bed. Hero was out as soon as their head hit the pillow. Villain sighed in relief, then resumed reading their book… until Hero awoke for a third time.
“Villain?” Hero asked, eyes wide.
“Yes, Hero, it’s me,” Villain said.
“At our base, Hero, and- you know what? Stay there, I’ll be right back.”
Villain left and returned shortly with a syringe in hand.
“What’s that?” Hero asked.
“Just a little something to help you calm down, and help me retain my sanity,” Villain answered.
Villain injected the contents of the syringe into Hero’s IV line. They looked at Hero, who was sitting upright in bed once again.
“Come on, lay down for me,” Villain said.
“Why should I trust you?” Hero asked, eyes narrowed.
“Because I’ve joined your cause, Hero, surprise.”
“Really!?” Hero asked, grinning from ear to ear.
Villain helped Hero lay down again. This time, when Hero’s eyes fluttered shut, they stayed closed. Villain was able to get through the rest of their book in peace.
Villain looked down at Hero, who was still laying down this time.
“What’s going on?” Hero asked, “I don’t remember much. There was a fight, and an energy blast headed straight toward you, I think I blacked out.”
“You took a hit for me, Hero,” Villain explained softly, “…you really don’t remember anything? Not even after we brought you back to the base?”
Hero shook their head feebly.
“No reason, Hero, no reason.”
