New current read: Five On A Treasure Island by Enid Blyton. I decided to pick this up as my depression is kicking my ass and I needed something easy to read and comforting but didn’t fancy rereading Harry Potter again. I got the full series of these for an excellent price on The Book Bundle. HOWEVER, these books were written in the 40s and therefore are problematic by today’s standards. They are definitely a product of their time but for my own fun I’ve decided to tab things that are out of date. Like. I’m on page 13 and the things said about gender already…. 🚩 That said, I think it’s important to remember that these views were standard when the books were written and set. Still doesn’t make it right, but I do think historical context is important. All in all, I’m reading this series because I loved Enid Blyton as a kid and needed something easy going yet still with a bit of intrigue because… I remember 0 of the plots of these?? What were some of your favourite children’s reads? Would you read again now?
