Florchis’s Summer of 2018 Comment-a-thon
Okay. So people who have known me for a while here probably have noticed that every time I have a bout of self/fandom negativity, I try to counter it after with a bunch of possitive/self-affirming actions, because I believe in karma and that kindness is a performative action. And since is summer and therefore my duty-load is lighter, and inspired by @memorizingthedigitsofpi‘s great Comment Squad, I decided to set a goal for myself to leave 200 comments in AO3 from now till classes start again in March.
Now, I could have decided to do this all by my lonesome and you all would be none the wiser, but I ended up deciding to share this for some reasons:
I’ve seen many of my friends/mutuals here complaining about lack of feedback in their fanworks, particularly their fics, and I want to make a statement about this and also do something to change this, even if with my small two cents. As they say, you have to be the change you want to see in the world.
Maybe some of you want to do something like this too! You can set your own goal, and nobody will care if you don’t reach it. Whatever you do, not matter how small, can be a step in the right direction to forge a kinder, more positive fandom for all of us.
I will try to keep a masterlist of the fics I have commented (try being the key word here); not only for counting purposes, but because maybe you can find something you like too and make the comment-amplifier begin!
I want people to recommend me fics in AO3 (if you have them, send tumblr links too, so I can also reblog them!). Your friends’, your own, your favourites. I don’t care if they are old or new, popular or not (I might not choose the longer ones, because reasons, but send them anyway! I wil save them for later). I have a long-ass list of fics to read (and ~90 in my kindle I have read already and still didn’t get around to comment), so I can’t guarantee I will read everything you send me, but I will try, especially if it can help boost someone who is feeling a little down about their writing/lack of response to their works. (Here is a list of my ships, but I’m fairly flexible.) Therefore:
