Condottiero and Captain of the Company of St. Giovanna

Based off of the (in)famous condotierre of the late 15th and early 16th Century. Specifically those living in or around the Italian Peninsula (especially those north of Rome). This character is set within a Fantasy setting of my own creation so some stuff will not align with IRL history. For questions about that specifically you can refer to this pinned post or send asks! I love talking about worldbuilding so don’t hesitate to ask lol.

This is a Character Side-Blog (thanks to @cordaxmerc for the inspiration) dedicated to a more twisted (and straight up fucked) side of the Knightposting community. This is a mercenary/mercposting blog dedicated to revenge, tragedy, evil posting, and some raunchy stuff.

There will be some canonical stuff here as far as lore is concerned but seeing as I have a bajillion and one characters Galeazzo will most likely receive the least amount of lore for some period of time… BUT never say I didn’t think of all you adoring people on the internet, so without further adieu let’s get into some Galeazzo lore.

Vitelione:

The Shattered Kingdom… once the heartlands of an ancient empire now not more than a collection of ruins and those who live in said husks. There are the many realms that make up the Peninsula of Vitelione today, from the most decorated Duchies of Corlanio, Madelio, or Perseno; or the religous dominions of the Church. Far more states exist between the cracks of the once united Kingdom, as counts, marquesses, lords, bishops, dukes, and even Kings vie for control of Vitelione. Perhaps one day these lands will once again be united under a single banner. But for now, all we can hope for is that the peace lasts another day or two…

The Duchy of Perseno:

A middling realm within Northern Vitelione, Perseno has often been seen as the crossroads between far larger dominions. It has been held by the d’Ovesti family for centuries, once as mere Counts to Margraves and even Dukes. The Duchy was established some 50 years ago under Leonardo d’Ovesti, known by some as “Il Grand,” after being granted the rank of Duke by the Emperor. Many have come and gone following the rule of Leonardo “Il Grand,” but all have maintained their rule over their holdings within the Duchy of Perseno… that is until the birth of Galeazzo.

Second son of Francesco II d’Ovesti, Lord of Espena, Galeazzo was trained from birth as the secondary heir, behind his elder brother Martino. He was skilled in arms and the ways of combat from an early age. Much like his grandfather he enjoyed activities such as hunting, falconry, and going for long rides amongst the d’Ovesti domains. Before the age of maturity his brother had been sworn under his father’s name to rule faithfully whenever the crown should pass to him. Martino was then married off to a member of the prominent di Ceretto family. Galeazzo, as was a time honored position left his family estates to pursue a career as a Condottiero, joining the prominent Compagnia di Santa Giovanna.

Sometime after his arrangements were made with the Company his grandfather, also named Martino, died, leaving his father, Francesco, to inherit the lands of Perseno. After the funeral of Duke Martino d’Ovesti was held, the young “warrior prince” set out to make a name for himself, winning glory and gold for both himself and his house.

Condottiero Armour from Milan, Italy dated around 1487 on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna

The armour of Roberto de Sanseverino d’Aragona a Condottiero mercenary who served in the armies of a number of Italian States including his native Milan, Florence, Savoy, Genoa and Venice. It was while he was in the service of the Republic of Venice he led the Venetian armies at the Battle of Calliano in 1487 during the War of Rovereto.

While besieging the city of Trento, belonging to the Holy Roman Empire. he himself was besieged by a relief force. His forces were surrounded and routed with many in the Venetian army drowning after a floating bridge collapsed. Roberto himself drowned with the Venetian cavalry and his armour was captured after the battle by the Imperial forces.

Il Carro dei Vincitori? 

Non era avvezzo all’idealismo, ma amava sfornare idee propositive così, come il fornaio sforna panini di varie dimensioni e di variegate forme ogni mattina.

“Bisogna pur darsi da fare per qualche causa!” pensava.

E si dava da fare per davvero. Non faceva come quelli che salgono sul carro dei vincitori senza far la fatica di spingerlo. Questi ultimi si affrettano a salire e ci rimangono appollaiati comodamente fino a quando diventa un carro perdente. In tal caso sanno bene come affrettarsi a scendere.

Ma lui no! Costruiva carri da solo, con le proprie mani e, vincenti o perdenti che fossero, li spingeva senza sosta e, in caso di sconfitta irrimediabile, li abbandonava solo per costruirne di nuovi.

“C’è chi vive aggrappandosi e chi si offre come àncora!” pensava.

Non che questo instancabile signore disdegnasse di aggrapparsi, ma lo faceva solo nei confronti di coloro che si erano a lui ancorati… per poi sospingerli più in alto… affinché conquistassero una propria indipendenza.

“Diffidate di me!” diceva “Fino a che non avrete imparato a fidarvi di voi stessi!”

Come puoi comprendere se hai a che fare con un bravo padre di famiglia, un bravo leader o un bravo condottiero?

Quando arriva sono tutti contenti, così come sono tutti dispiaciuti nel vederlo andare via.

Al contrario di colui che rattrista, o impaurisce, con la propria presenza, e rende tutti felici assentandosi.
