“David was a man after God’s own heart…

A king, a leader, someone who had walked closely with God.

But one evening, in a moment of idleness, he saw something he should have turned away from.

“One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof… From the roof he saw a woman bathing.” 2 Samuel 11:2

What started as a look became a desire.

Desire became action.

Action led to sin.

And one wrong decision did not stay alone.

It led to deception.

It led to manipulation.

It led to the death of an innocent man.

Sin never stops where it starts.

It grows. It spreads. It costs more than we expect.

David tried to cover it.

He tried to manage it.

But what is hidden from people is never hidden from God.

“You are the man.” 2 Samuel 12:7

When the prophet Nathan confronted him, everything was exposed.

But here is what makes David’s story powerful.

He did not justify himself.

He did not make excuses.

He repented.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

David faced consequences.

The pain was real.

The loss was heavy.

But God’s mercy was still present.

This story reminds us that even people who love God can fall.

But it also reminds us that no failure is beyond repentance.

Guard your heart in the small moments.

Because one unchecked desire can lead you further than you ever intended to go.

And if you fall, do not hide.

Run back to God.

Because His mercy is greater than your worst mistake. ❤️‍🔥”

Hi Everyone! I'm sharing this post, because I often think of David. He was an imperfect person (and he knew it) yet God called David "a man after My own heart". This encourages me, because I know how imperfect I am.

We all sin, because we're human. We were born in sin. David sinned, but he repented and God gave him mercy.

Friends, I pray the story of David gives you encouragement as well. You will sin, because we all do. But God's mercy, through Jesus Christ, will always be greater than your sin. Have a blessed day in Christ. Amen! 🙏🕊️🙌

God does not overlook our sin, but he forgives it.

It important to remember that God does not overlook our sin, since it prevents us from taking his grace for granted. It also prevents us from thinking that God will always wipe away the consequences of our sin.

Most times, he will not.

A good father forgives their children when they make a mistake, but they also let them deal with the consequences of their actions. It’s best to learn now than when it has eternal consequences.

God not always clearing up our mess is meant to teach us how destructive sin really is, and how it not only drives us away from the love of God, but also from each other.

Take David’s family, for instance. His affair with Bathsheba lead to her husband’s death, as well as the death of their child. Not only that, but it also lead to sexual assault of David’s daughter, Tamar, and Absalom, his son, hunting him down to kill him.

This story not only strikes home for David, it also warns us of the dangers of sin. It tells us that while God forgives our sin, if we confess them with a humble heart, he will allow us to deal with its consequences.

Going through these types of experiences will not only make sin less appealing to us, but make obeying God that much more desirable.

Sin is like honeycomb in the mouth, but like rocks in the stomach. Obeying God will only leave you wanting more. Sin leads to regret and humiliation, obedience leads to joy and the washing away of our shame.

These types of scenarios are the equivalent of a father forgiving their son or daughter of their sins, but still having them go to time out and to think about what they have done.

It’s painful in the moment, but will lead to an aversion from sin in the future.

Remember, the Lord disciplines and corrects those he loves, and it’s through the pruning that we produce more fruit.

It’s through facing the consequences of our actions that we can learn that our place is to glorify God, and not ourselves. It’s here, in the midst the ashes that we have made of our lives, that we can begin to trust in God to eventually pick up the pieces, and put us back together.

The world wants a Savior but not a Lord. The New Testament is clear, a Savior who is not Lord is no Savior and no friend. If the Old Testament showed us anything, it is that God's seemingly bizarre laws were written not for his fascination but for his people's preservation. Let's not only call Jesus Lord this week, let's live in a way that shows he controls our lives and his Spirit produces our character.

The only thing keeping us from being crushed by the enormous weight of our sins is God's grace and mercy. Thankfully, God's mercies are new every morning and He has endless grace for us. That is truly worth celebrating. Amen! 🙌

Dealing With Sin

Many evangelical teachers insist so strongly upon free, unconditional grace as to create the impression that sin is not a serious matter and that God cares very little about it! They make it seem that God is only concerned with our escaping the consequences. The gospel then, in practical application, means little more than a way to escape the fruits of our past! But the heart that has felt the weight of its own sin and has seen the dread whiteness of the Most High God will never believe that a message of forgiveness without transformation is a message of good news. To remit a man's past without transforming his present is to violate the moral sincerity of his own heart. To that kind of thing God will be no party! For to offer a sinner the gift of salvation based upon the work of Christ, while at the same time allowing him to retain the idea that the gift carries with it no moral implications, is to do him untold injury where it hurts him most!

Means of Grace

"Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit." - 1 Peter 1:22

Our modern religious phraseology has coined and thrown into universal currency a term not found in the Bible. The phrase I mean is that familiar one, "means of grace." But I am forced to believe that very inadequate ideas are held of "means of grace," and that great loss and evil result from the mistake.

Public worship is a means of grace, and of the service a prominent feature is the sermon. But what is the sermon? Perhaps an able theological discussion whereby the mind has gained a firmer hold on truth. That is valuable. Perhaps it unfolds the consequences of sin and holiness in the endless future. That is valuable, revealing to the mind worthy and powerful motives. Perhaps it states the principles of right, the details of duty. That also is valuable. The hearer knows the will of God. But where is the grace, the growth in goodness, even if the sermons have been listened to with profound attention and marked effect? The improvement is not yet. The sermon becomes profitable and growth in grace begins only when the hearer departs to put into practice what he has heard.

In everyone's daily life there are many and nameless annoyances -- the vexations, the carelessness, the rudeness, unpleasant manners, the mistakes, the heedlessness, the unamiableness one meets. They are countless. They provoke peevishness. They are the usual incentives to anger, the ordinary occasions of fretfulness and irritability. And they are usually very insignificant. Few people there are who think religion has anything to do with such petty affairs; but they are the occasions of no little sin. Yet they should be considered as constantly recurring opportunities for the exercise of that noble Christian virtue self-control. At each one of the thousands of petty vexations which one meets in the course of years, we have the opportunity of reflecting, "God will be pleased if I control myself, if I remain quiet and calm without excitement or irritability; therefore I will do so." In other words, God has given us countless "means of grace."

"But you forget," urges one, "there is one class of events or circumstances which must be excepted. We are surrounded by temptations. Surely they are not means of grace, are they?" But why not? For what is a temptation? It is a position in which there are opportunities and inducements to do wrong. Thus it is one of the noblest opportunities for obedience; for in God's sight it is a higher act of honor to choose right when there are strong inducements to do wrong. Yes, even a temptation may be a "means of grace" -- a struggle and a victory for a high moral purpose, both of which make him a better man.
