Blaeu Ammon by Yasushi Nirasawa. via Creature Core Artbook (1992) 140 × 220 × 160mm / Styroform 50 × 120 × 150mm, Fando 100g, Sculpey 400g, 3mm⌀ Aluminium rod 600mm, Epoxy putty 100g, Vinyl tube 300mm The title is German for “Blue Demon.” This piece gives three-dimensional form to an emblem the artist has used for many years in his creative works. The design motif blends elements of creature-like animals in the Gizmo (or “Gyaizu”) category with yokai (supernatural beings) from the past. It’s a fun motif that reflects the artist’s unique interpretation of the many faces of evil — perhaps even representing the duality of beauty and monstrosity.
