Peony season almost passed me by! I bought one bouquet here in Austin before our trip to Germany about two weeks ago and when I looked at Whole Foods for peonies last weekend they had none anymore! I am so glad, I at least I got to enjoy these beauties in my house once this spring. The variety I bought had the biggest and „poufiest“ blooms I have ever seen here in the cut flower trade in the US. The color was such a beautiful dark cerise red that my camera picked up poorly, but you get the gist of it. This peony variety reminded me of a trip to the Loire Valley in France where I bought a similar peony bouquet at a market. I distinctly recall it sitting on the garden table while we were enjoying the best French cheeses and a wonderful Rose Wine. Isn’t it amazing how memories stay with us? I am still unpacking my suitcases from our trip to Germany. It is amazing what can be fit in just two suitcases! And I have to admit I bought a lot of things in addition to packing my whole household to begin with. Anybody else out there is a suitcase unpacking procrastinator? Happy Monday, I hope a good week is waiting for you! #peony #peonies #redpeony #redpeonies #red #flowers #flower #redflower #redflowers #redbloom #redblooms #organicgardendreams #flowersofinstagram #cutflowers #cutflower #flowerphotography #flowerphoto (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQGYSwZH7dh/?utm_medium=tumblr
Growing flowers makes my soul smile.
To my own surprise, scabiosas have become one of my most favorite cut flowers recently. Their delicate ethereal beauty seems to be just irresistible to me. This light pink one and her friends have been gracing our dining room table for many days now and each time I look at them I can’t help but feeling in awe of their loveliness! Wouldn’t it be great to grow this variety in a cut flower garden? Do you have discovered a new cut flower for yourself lately? Please do tell! Wishing you all a lovely day! Here in Austin it is supposed to become a gray and gloomy one with scattered thunderstorms and rain, so most likely not a gardening day. Maybe I get to quickly deadhead some of the roses and other plants in between showers. You know, that kind of ten minute gardening? #scabiosas #scabiosa #organicgardendreams #cutflower #cutflower #pink #lightpink #flower #flowers #bloom #blooms #flowerphotography #flowersofinstagram #floweroftheday #fortheloveofflowers #flowerlovers #flowercloseups #instaflowers #flowerlove #flowermagic #gardening #cutflowergarden #garden (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/COP-_9WhQRX/?igshid=1arz0k66127dx
Lately, I wasn’t too lucky with cut flowers. The daffodils I bought never opened and the second time they dried up after just one day. Has that ever happened to you? But these scabiosas are just fantastic. I have never seen this variety before but find the coloration, simplicity, and airiness of the blooms so beautiful. They could be wildflowers, just picked from the field and would be perfect growing in a cottage garden. And the best is, they lasted already over a week and are still gracing our living room with their beauty. Wishing you all a lovely weekend whatever you do. Me? I have to give our master bathroom a good clean but after that, as a reward, I will work in the garden a little and simply enjoy myself! #organicgardendreams #scabiosa #scabiosas #cutflower #cutflowers #flowers #blooms #posy #simplebouquet #smallbouquet #cottagegardenflowers #flowersofinstagram #flowerlovers #flowerlover #flowersmakemehappy #bouquet #simpleflowerarrangement #flowerarrangement #cottagegarden (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMFIvcYAo9O/?igshid=5ma81idotpb5
My first perfect bloom of the deep purple dinnerplate dahlia ‘Thomas Edison’! The photo doesn’t really show it but this bloom is huge, measuring about 7” across. This dahlia will really make a statement as a cutflower in a vase! Good, disease resistant, white roses are hard to find. Apperantly, they are the most difficult to breed. But ‘Bolero’, a Floribunda, bred by Jacques Mouchotte (France, before 2003) is one of them. This near white rose seems to have it all: the white blend color is always beautiful no matter if it tends to have s more pinkish or yellowish hue depending on the temperatures. The flowers are large and very full and have the desirable old fashioned bloom form which is so romantic. This rose seems to be able to thrive in warm climates, can withstand high heat and is supposed to be relatively healthy. As an additional plus the blooms are very fragrant. I also think that this rose will make a nice cut flower. For all these reasons I am contemplating adding ‘Bolero’ to my own garden. What do you think of it? Do you grow this rose? And if so what is your experience with it? Please do tell! The photo was taken by me at The International Rose Test Garden in Portland a few years back on a very warm summer day. #bolero #floribunda #white #nearwhite #whiteblend #romantic #oldfadhioned #cutflower #goodcutflower #oldfashionedbloomform #diseaseresistent #beautiful #fragrant #rosesofinstagram #instaroses #rose #roses #internationalrosetestgarden #portland #oregon (at Portland, Oregon)
