Did you know that Agoutis are expert gardeners? These critters have a unique role in the ecosystem - they act as seed dispersers. When they eat fruit, they often bury the seeds, which helps to distribute them throughout the forests.
Brazilian Fauna
Agouti (Cutia)
Agoutis exist throughout the Americas, with Brazil being home to seven of the 12 known species.
They are herbivores that range in size from 49-64 cm and weigh from 3-6 kg.
Their name comes from a Tupi word (a-coti) which translates as "individual who sits down to eat".
