“Sarah, I need your help” Davey suddenly announces, breaking the silence in the room.
The girl raises an inquisitive eyebrow, “help with what?”
He goes to sit beside Sarah, pausing to take a breath before speaking again, voice shy but determined, “I want you to teach me how to embroider, please”
Sarah stares at her brother, surprised, before adopting a teasing smirk, “why? You want to make (Y/N) a gift?”
Davey straightens his back, becoming more resolved, “yes, actually. I wanna embroider a handkerchief for her”
“aww look at you being all sweet” Sarah teases, giggling as Davey throws her a look, his cheeks and ears tinged pink. “alright, alright, I’ll help you. Do you have an idea on the design?”
“yeah, I read some books on embroidery designs and took some inspiration from them,” he pulls out a scrap piece of paper from his pocket. It was littered with half-finished doodles of swirls, flowers, and stylized initials. One in particular looked finished, although the marks of repeatedly erased lines, replaced by bolder pencil strokes, were evident, “I also asked for some tips from Buttons and this is what I came up with” he says, angling the paper into Sarah’s sight and pointing at the finished design.
She takes the paper from him and looks at the design closely. (Y/N)’s initials were lined with swooping lines and foliage, some flower petals and leaves making up some of the letters’ structure, making them take on a pattern that was typical of the embroidery designs of the time but at the same time very personalized. Under the initials was a simple bouquet of leaves, vines and flowers, the vines curling around the letters in a circular pattern, effectively making a wreath, the flowers helping to add more detail.
Sarah makes a sound of approval as she finishes studying the sketch, “it might take some time to finish because you’re inexperienced, so I hope you’re not planning on giving it to her anytime soon.”
Davey nods, “I understand but I do want to give it to her as soon as possible”
Sarah smiles softly at him, “alright then, we better get started right away”
For the next few weeks, in his spare time, Davey learns the necessary stitches on a small piece of fabric with Sarah’s guidance. Eventually, their mother starts to help her daughter teach her son. When they deemed him ready, they instructed him to start on the actual handkerchief. Davey worked tirelessly, stitch after stitch, his fingers slowly being covered by bandages.
Weeks later, with the final stitch sewed on, Davey secures it and snips off the thread. In his hands lay the product of his efforts. His mother and sister sit with him, pride in their eyes as they watch him carefully pack the finished handkerchief into a small box and tying it with a ribbon, a smile on his face and excitement blazing in his eyes.
“Thank you, mom, Sarah, for the help, I really appreciate it” he says with a smile, placing a kiss on his mom’s head, “I’m heading out to the theater, I’ll be home later”
Grabbing the box, he leaves. As he heads to the theater, he thinks of what her reaction will be. He stops at the back entrance, nervousness filling his body. He shakes it off and enters, sending greetings to the staff he comes across as he walks to where he knew she’d be. The staff, already used to his presence in the theater at this point, greets him back.
Arriving at the sewing room, Davey knocks on the door, patiently waiting with his hands behind his back, hiding the present from her sight. A smile makes its way onto his face as she opens the door.
“Davey!” (Y/N) exclaims happily, “this is a pleasant surprise, I wasn’t expecting you, come in” she says after kissing his cheek, pulling him inside the room.
“Sorry for coming without warning but I wanted to give you this right away” he presents the box to her and opens it revealing the handkerchief.
She takes it out of the box with wide, wonder and joy-filled eyes, “did you make this?” she asks, looking at the embroidery closely, before looking up at him.
“Sarah and my mom taught me, but yeah I sewed all of it so some of the stitches are a bit crooked” he says sheepishly, “it’s not anywhere near what you can do but I tried my best”
“I love it and its beautiful Davey, thank you so much” she says before pulling him into a tight hug, her smile wide and her happiness palpable.
“I’m glad you like it” he replies, hugging her back as he mirrors her smile.
As they pull away, she glances at his hands. Taking a better look, (Y/N) frowns. Her gaze flits from his eyes to his hands, she makes a face full of understanding, knowing the pain all too well. Wordlessly, she kisses his bandage covered hands making his heart melt. Davey takes his hand away from hers and caresses her face as he smiles down at her. She winds her arms around his neck, leaning up and placing a kiss on his lips, one he immediately reciprocates.
“I love you” she whispers once they pull away.
“I love you too” he replies, his forehead resting on hers.

summary: It’s been two years since they spoke, and they need a wedding date. What could go wrong?
The opening of ‘You’re My Best Friend’ plays as you anxiously await for a response. The song he’d made his contact all those years ago as a joke but you’re too sentimental to let it go. You sprint across your apartment to grab it. “Hi,” you pant into the receiver. “As for your proposition, for you” your old friend said, “anything”. Your heartbeat races even faster at the thought of seeing him again. “Thank you” “See you then” He says and then the receiver clicks.
Almost a month and a half later, you sit on your couch waiting. Fidgeting with the hem of your shirt, you think about the last time you saw him. It was almost two years ago now. After graduation, you two had slowly grown apart. People thought you guys were made for each other, actual soulmates, but time is a cruel mistress. Romance was never a word you would use to describe your relationship with Davey. He was always your partner in crime, your best friend, never your boyfriend. Well not never, the amount of times you’d see him laugh or talking or just existing and imagine a world where you two weren’t just friends. But the possibility of love wasn’t worth risking a friendship over.
Somehow the idea of seeing him still makes you feel butterflies. Even though he recently moved to New York for a grad program, you didn’t reach out with the fear of being awkward or just wanting to leave things the way they were. But a friend’s wedding where they were desperate to meet your childhood friend after learning he’s in town and needing a date, a proposal arised.
It wasn’t a large wedding but large enough that you could leave early if things got weird. Getting cornered into bringing a guy you haven’t seen in years to a wedding where you barely knew the bride wasn’t the finest combo but it will have to do. All your worries and fears were pulled from your mind with a knock on the door. ‘Here we go’ you thought. You pull the door open with a deep breath as you see him.
Wow, college has done him well. Davey was always handsome but wow. Maybe time isn’t so criminal after all. Suits make anybody better but damn does he pull it off. “Hey, long time no see” he says, “shut up” you breathe as you hug him. The silk of the suit touches your face, you can smell the laundry detergent. The same one he’s used since he was a kid. The stale cotton smell fills your mind with nostalgia. Memories of crying into his shirt over god knows what, or borrowing a jacket from his car after a spring rain. A small smell brings you back to a past life, a completely different person, someone afraid of the endless possibility of the future. But his voice brings you back to the present. As he pulls away from the hug, he says “So y/n, what’s the plan?”
You two leave your apartment in an almost awkward silence. The fear of making things weird after two years of limited contact weights on you. As you approach his car, he says “so how did you get wrapped into a wedding?” You take a moment to reply and say “I barely know at this point, the groom is a friend of mine from my freshman writing class. His friend group is filled with frat boys and trust fund babies but he’s an alright guy and I am still easily peer pressured.” You ramble.
“You have a theme of finding the one alright guy in a group of animals” He says, winking at you. “A prime example being your juvenile posse from freshman year.” You say. Davey playfully gasps, acting offended. “Jack, Race, Romeo, and the rest of the goonies weren't exactly angels but they weren't heathens” He says in an overly dramatic tone.
He changes the subject before I can poke fun at his boys again saying “Me and Jack are sharing an apartment while I finish my double major and while he’s still doing random things to pay for art school. Some of the other boys are around town. It’s kind of homely though, especially through the first couple weeks. What was it like living somewhere completely new all on your own?” You think for a second and say “It’s kind of nice. Starting completely fresh. No one has any expectation of who you are. It was rough at first without anyone close but I was able to change without fear of ruining old friendships.” He nodded silently, definitely thinking about my statement and analyzing it like the over thinker he’s always been.
We sat in a comfortable silence as we approached his car. Davey takes two large steps to reach the car door before you, “M’lady” he says as he opens the door. The inside of his car smelled like a lemon air freshener and his dashboard was covered in post it notes with random things scribbled on them. “What are these?” you say, staring at the little notes. “Oh well they started by me forgetting things all the time and it evolved into the boys leaving notes every time they’re in here alone. I’m too sappy to take them down” He replies as he gets into the driver seat. ‘If you mess this up, I’ll deck ya. Love Race’ reads one of the notes. Davey notices you eyeing the note as he starts the car and says quietly “Race wrote that one about today. He really wants us to be close again so when I drive down here to see you, I pick up cheap weed for him.” ''God that's such a Race thing to do'' you say laughing. He makes nervous eye contact with you that makes you think that maybe weed wasn’t Race’s only motive for us meeting again. But Davey speaks before your mind can race too far off, “So what’s the address for this wedding venue?”
As we drive for a few minutes, Davey turns on the radio to fill the weird gap of silence between conversations and of course the first sing playing is “You’re my best friend” by Queen. The song about your partner being your best friend is playing, the song that could definitely be labeled as “our song” is playing, the universe is playing a cruel game on us today. Davey turns to you recognizing how significant this song is and says “You better remember all the words to this song” and of course I do. I reply by singing the opening verse very loudly. To which he does the exact same thing. As the song fades out, he says “I remember listening to that in high school. We used to sit on your bedroom floor and do homework while the whole Night At The Opera album played”. The nostalgia flooding back to you as his eyes focus back on the road. A particular memory stands out.
One night we were both studying for our AP Lit test in my bedroom. It was almost 2am and you’d been studying for hours. We snuck down to the kitchen for some snacks before the final haul of work. Running down the stairs your feet slip and Davey catches you in his arms. As you balance again, his arms don’t fall away and you turn to face him about to ask him if something is wrong. His eyes staring deeply into yours as you look at him and you savor the feeling of his warm hands on your arms. The moment quickly passed when your cat meowed very loudly at your feet, scaring the both of you apart. After raiding your kitchen, you two swiftly return upstairs to finish studying and hopefully avoiding another borderline romantic encounter for the evening. Once you close your bedroom door, Davey said “What’s your favorite record at the moment?”. He was trying to avoid studying but I didn’t really care. “Currently it’s A Night At The Opera by Queen. I just got it on vinyl and it’s definitely a winner” I say back. “Well then put it on” he says jokingly gesturing to the small record player in my room. “Alright mate” you mumble in a vague british accent knowing that’ll get him to laugh, and of course he does. You put on the record and the opening instrumental starts playing.
We study for most of the album, only interrupted by pages flipping, pencils scratching, yawning, and me flipping the record. By the end of the album, we’re both lying on the floor staring at the ceiling in exhaustion, the carpet touching my bare arms as the final notes fade out. “That was incredible,” Davey says quietly, turning to face me on the ground. “I know” I say nodding, leaning towards him. For a few seconds, we were close enough together we could have kissed. Staring at each other waiting for the other to make a move. He turns away, a fear of making things weird overcomes him. You can tell in his face that he regrets it the moment he turns.
The memory fades as the car stops at a red light. Turning to Davey as his eyes are fixed on the road, you see the side profile that you saw everyday at school. The slightly crooked nose that got broken from a flying book during lunch. The eyebrow that has a small scar above it from tripping at the city pool during freshman year. The pink blotch of color on his cheek that never seems to leave no matter the temperature. All these memories attached to him for better or for worse.
He notices you staring as he turns the corner. “What?” he says quietly, blushing. “Nothing, just thinking” you say equally as quiet. “About what?” he almost whispers. Just as you panic about what to say, the GPS says “You have arrived at your destination”

Master List
Going to school wasn't the worst, but definitely not the best. Especially for girls. We were always looked down upon for being 'less smart than their male counterparts'. They taught us more about etiquette and manners and boring shit like that. Lots of the time I would hear boys laugh in the school yard about how girls shouldn't even go to school, or go to a school that would teach us how to do laundry and wash dishes. What utter scum.
When I bumped into David he was very different. He was polite and kind and treated me like human being. He was a nice breath of fresh air, and I wanted more. I knew him to be in my advanced English class and Math. Boy was he smart, but so was I. I think he noticed I was in a few of his classes and chose to sit by me. We had a small chat about books we liked and how our lives at home were. He was a sweet boy unlike the ones I've seen and met before.
So that lead me to tell my best friend about him. She told me that I was starting to fancy him but I doubt that. I barely know the guy!
"You totally fancy him!" (F/n) squealed with a giant grin. "I better be a brides maid!"
"Wha!" I exclaimed in embarrassment. "No! (F/n)! I only talk to him in classes, and he probably only sees me in a friendly manner anyways."
"We can change that," She said wiggling her eyebrows.
"You suck," I said clearing all expressions from my face.
"Oh come on," She said rolling her eyes playfully. "I just want to help."
"Yeah yeah," I sighed. "You know, I'm okay with just being friends."
She just shook her head as the bell rung, "David Jacobs huh, I think he's in my next class."
I felt my face pale not knowing what she would do. Maybe she's just scaring me. Before I could warn her not to she left me standing alone in the schools garden. I made my way to my next class, my mind elsewhere. Would David and I ever get together? Would he ever like me like that? What would it be like dating him?
My waking thoughts were consumed of just David and I. The possibilities, the romance that seemed nonexistent, how good of a person he seemed to be. The next day when David sat next to me there seemed to be something on his mind.
"Hey David," I said with a smile closing my book.
He just stared at me for a few seconds before snapping out of his thoughts, "Oh, hey." I furrowed my eyebrows, 'Does he want me to leave him alone?' Probably, so I opened my book and started to read leaving David to his thoughts. I may like to talk to him, but I know when to stop. I was only able to read a few pages before David passed me a note. I looked at him with curiosity and opened it.
It read:
Your friend told me you needed some tutoring with math, I could help you.
I felt my eyes widen and blush a bit. So she did talk to him. I looked at the clock noticing that class will start soon so I quickly scribbled down my reply.
Yeah, some of it was kind of confusing. How about this Saturday? At noon?
I passed him back the note and I noticed he seemed extremely nervous. He scanned it quickly and let out a sigh of relief. A grin took over his features as he wrote. Passing it to me it read:
Sounds good. We could go to my place, I can pick you up. What's your address?
I wrote down my address and just like that, a study was planned. The week seemed to pass quickly after that exchange. David hung out with me more and more frequently. He would walk me to some of my different classes and he would walk me home. 'Just so I know the way' Was one of his many excuses. Once Saturday rolled around I was made sure to dress in somewhat casual, yet still presentable garment. A baby blue skirt with a white lacy top.
A knock was heard at my door and it seemed like I wasn't quick enough to answer it, for there was my mom and David standing there talking. I shyly approached the two as my mom was questioning him and he looked extremely nervous once again.
"Stop interrogating him mother," I said sternly.
"I just want to make sure this young man has the best of intentions with you," My mother responded crossing her arms.
"He's just going to help me study," I sighed out as my mama moved out of the way.
"Make sure you're back here before dinner you hear me?" She asked. "I don't want to make food for two only for it to go to waste."
I nodded in understanding, "Of course mama." I kissed her cheek and left with David to his house.
"That was scary," He said letting out a breath. This caused me to laugh. When we got to his house we were the only ones there. We studied, him explaining further how to do some of the stuff we learned earlier. Then his family came home. We were in the kitchen so they saw us right away.
His little brother, which I think he said his name was Les, ran over to us with a giant smile, "You're the girl Davey won't stop talkin about!" My eyes widened and I felt my cheeks heat up.
"U-uhm," I stuttered out not knowing how to reply.
"Les!" David whispered harshly.
"It's alright," I said with a slight laugh. His sister, which I forgot her name sorry, laughed too.
"Come on Les," She said with a smile, "Let's let them continue studying." His parents walked in to introduce themselves.
"I'm Mrs. Jacobs and this is my husband," She said politely. "It's a pleasure to meet you dear."
"The pleasure is all mine Mrs. Jacobs," I smiled. "My name is (y/n) (l/n)." They then left to the small living room leaving me and David slightly alone. We couldn't seem to focus on our work anymore and we decided to take a break, David helping me onto the fire escape. We stared out at the sky breathing in the fresh air. I noticed it was started getting late and mentioned to David I should head home.
"I'll walk you there," He said while helping me back into his apartment. I nodded with a smile as we packed up our stuff. Les started to complain saying how 'Davey' hogged me the entire time and that he wanted to play with me too. Sarah, I learned her name was, told him that next time he would be able to. We bid his parents goodbye and we left off to my house.
"The stars look very pretty," I mumbled out as we walked down a cobblestone street. "Too bad the lights of the city block them."
"The city lights let some shine brighter," He muttered under his breath but I heard him. I looked at him in confusion and I notice he was blushing.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I-I, uh," He stuttered out. "You look beautiful and the l-light uh..." I blushed and couldn't help but let out a small giggle.
"Y-you happen to look handsome," I replied tucking a stray hair behind my ear.
Once we got to my house I stopped before entering. I turned to David and smiled shyly.
"Thank you Davey," I said with a slight smirk. I leaned on my tip toes and gave him a light peck on the lips before bolting into my house. I looked out my window to see a stunned Davey standing there. Then a love sick smile rested on his face and I knew that I did the right thing. He slowly left with a bit of a pip in his step.
Hi! I really love your writing! This is my first time requesting something, so i don't know if I'm doing this right! XD Could you please write a canon era Davey x reader (headcanons, oneshot, or whatever you want!) were the reader is kinda the sister of the group and a newsie and the two of them have crushes on each other and are always nervous/blushy when they talk to each other? And then some of the boys end up figuring out how to get them together? Thank you so much, and have a great day!
Listen half the boys could tell from the moment you two met that somethingeould happen
Race and Albert quite literally obnoxiously tease the two of you and it goes right over both of your heads
Davey would pursuade Jack to take a selling spot that’s close to yours so he could watch you all day
Little did he know that you do the exact same thing which is why you both end up in the same place most of the year
It is a good spot though, it’s right near a gentleman’s club and people tend to buy one on their way in so they have something to read
Davey wouldn’t be able to make eye contact with you for long periods of time without the faint pink on his cheeks spreading to a deep red across his face
It doesn’t take long for the rest of the boys to clock on, hell even Spot took part in the ‘how long until one of them confessed’ bet and he’s in Brooklyn
Neither of you did confess though, they had to drop the bet because you were taking too long
You both stuttered around each other and neither of you could maintain a conversation
The boys took it into their own hands, they quite literally locked you in one of the lodging house dorms alone together
Neither of you actually said anything to each other though, not for the first five minutes
You made idle small talk and complained about the others, neither looking at each other for fear of the other seeing your red faces
Naturally the boys were eavesdropping
Their plan was failing so they’d have to just encourage you
“DAVEY LIKES YOU”
You had no idea who yelled that but it did cause you to finally look at Davey, he’d turned completely away from you now. His red ears betrayed him though.
Nobody would go that red from that comment if it weren’t true.
It was your turn to blush now.
“Davey...” You placed a soft hand on his shoulder. “Is it true?”
“Y-yes,” Davey turned to you regaining some form of composure, his face still resembling Brooklyn. “I have liked you since I met you, I think you’re the most beautiful person in the world and since they’ve already exposed me I don’t care that they are most definitely eavesdropping right now”
You searched his eyes the entire time for any hint of a lie, you couldn’t find one. “I like you too Davey. I can’t even begin to explain why I do.”
He hugged you gently as cheers erupted from outside the door.
“I think that’s the longest we’ve held eye contact to date.” He chuckles in your ear, finally somewhat comfortable now he’s got that off his chest
I’m back! I took a break for No Content November and am now semi-ready to be creative again. I would like to start sort of having a monthly wrap up of my favorite fics that I read over the last couple of months because these authors are amazing. So here we go!
Tuesdays by @teheharrypotter: Hermione Granger hates Tuesdays. Why? Because her bad luck seems to spike everytime the day comes around. (Hermione Granger x Reader) ~It’s just so sweet and I love Hermione so much.
And This Is How It Starts by @isolemnlyswearpevensie: Everything your soulmate loses, you receive. Turns out, Y/N’s soulmate is very forgetful. (Susan Pevensie x female!Reader) ~I haven’t seen many Susan Pevensie one shots before and I’m so glad I found this one. The premise is adorable and it reminds me of how much I want a girlfriend. Trigger warning for some slight homophobia, though.
“The Ocean is Full of the Unknown...Just Like a First Date” by @lxncelot: Our boy Davey Jacobs asking you out in a modern, high school AU would have to include some of the following... (Davey Jacobs x Reader) ~This is a headcanon set that just makes me feel all bubbly, you know? Honestly all of lxncelot’s fics are pure gold that you should definitely check out.
To All The Girls I've Loved Before by @spellman-bby: A To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before!AU (Peter Parker x female!Reader) ~I’m not usually a rom-com person, but this au completely changed my mind. I love how spellman-bby gives the reader so much personality.
Daisies by @starktonyx: Everyone is born with the last words they ever hear from their soulmate written on their arm. (Peter Parker x Reader) ~Do you ever just cry with how beautiful something is?
Inamorata by @azucanela: After a few years of being Fire Lord, Zuko still hasn’t found a companion. So naturally, when Iroh comes upon a matchmaker, he does what he does best and helps Zuko out by hiring her to help him find someone. and inadvertently... Iroh ends up playing matchmaker himself. (Zuko x Reader) ~So I have been come complete Zutara trash but this fic seriously makes me consider going down that rabbit hole. If you want to feel like you are in an epic fantasy romance take a look.
I hope you love these fics as much as I do. Please stay safe and have a happy holiday season.
