First off, thank you for telling me about this!!! I'd love to know what comic this appearance is in if you happen to know?

Second, while I am so excited to see him I am mixed about his return. Though, I am always a bit skeptical when DC bring my favorites out to play again because you never know what you're getting writing wise or whether the writer will do their character justice.

With what I see here? Mrrrmhhhhh...I'm not excited to see that boring and uncreative all-black Superman suit again (like it's not a good costume design. It's got nothing going on for him, and it gives footy-pajama vibes.) or him being a part of Waller's 'Justice League' if it's still being called that.

He does look handsome in the art, which I love, but it really feels like to me they're just going to be sticking Match into a mold without really considering his character. He states in his last appearance (back in Suicide Squad) that he doesn't want to be a 'carbon copy' and yet here he is wearing what is essentially a Superman suit and filling a role :/ which I'm not pleased with (Please DC let Match explore his own identity.)

I don't know what the writer has planned for Match, if anything significant or if he's just filling a position in the team, but I am skeptical and I don't have high hopes. I don't think they'll do him justice if he's still a a part of Waller's 'League,' cause it feels like he's just filling the space of having a Kryptonian/someone with super-strength on the team. And I hope that this new suit isn't the new norm for him cause I'm personally not a fan of it at all.

[ PLAY ]:          while sitting together, the sender absently lifts the receiver’s hand, idly running their fingertips across the lines of their palms, mapping out every inch of their hand with slow, lazy touches. -- from match?

There was just something relaxing about laying down by Match's side as they sat on his couch, idle noise of the television filled the cabin as it played and floating by their ears. Neither seemingly listening to it He liked feeling lost in the privacy of the Alaskan wilderness where Match's cabin was located. It was far away from where his problem laid.

Relaxing here with Match it felt safe.

He felt like he could breath by his side.

He felt safe, that everything was sound as he laid his head against his shoulder. There was none of that anxious white noise that buzzed around his head here as leaned into Match's side as his cooler hand traced the edges of his warm hand, that traced the clear heart line that ran across the flesh of his palm, then the head line, and lastly the life line before they traveled elsewhere on his hands. There was a comfort Thad felt with the other clone that was different than anyone else. He knew him. He understood him unlike anyone else could and vice versa.

Thad's heart beat steady like a drum. He could have let Match explore him like for this hours as he melted into his side.

Match's hand slides over his own, tracing the skin, drawing lines, touching these calloused, damaged, and once bloodied hands with such a gentle touch, and Thad exhales content and closes his eyes content.

As time marches on and Match passes over his hands once more, palm to palm, Thad clasps his hand in his, stopping him without a word and turns Match's own hand in his own.

"My turn." Is all he says before taking his finger and tracing out the lines of Match's own hand, his fingers feeling out the cool skin, his callouses, the dips and rises of his hands slowly as if they were mountains to explore. He traced the valleys between his fingers and climbed to the tips, touching and tracing the pads of his fingers, pressing them with his own. He mapped Match's hands out with the same intrigue and curiosity and reverence before holding his hand in his own and interweaving his fingers with Match's own.

He felt safe by his side.

Have a snippet from a Fairy Tail AU I’m working on: “Wait, you two are dating? How long has this been going on? Do I need to give you a shovel talk?”

Jason scratched the back of his head.

“Er... A bit too late for that?”

Match squinted. “How long has this been going on?”

Kon and Jason exchanged looks. Next to Jason, Tim’s eyes darted back and forth. On the bright side, Match seemed distracted and wasn’t attacking in a frenzy anymore. On the other hand, Wendy, Steph, and Carla were all down for the count and Steph’s leg was bent at an angle Tim did not like.

“... I mean, fuck Jay, how long has it been?”

“You’re asking me? HOW SHOULD I KNOW!”

“You always remember the anniversaries!”

“Well, yeah, remembering a fucking day isn’t hard, but *come on*, its been at least a century,”

Tim blinked. Wait, what?

“I think its closer to two?” Kon tilted his head.

Jason seemed to consider this. “Fuck, I think you’re right.”

Tim gaped a bit. Wha- What???

“You’ve been dating my little brother for the last 200 fucking years and neither of you thought to mention it to me?!” Match yelled, sounded offended.

“It’s on and off,” Kon defended.

“I mean, I think we’ve stayed steady for the last 50 years?” Jason countered.

Kon considered that. “Okay, point, point.”

Match spluttered a bit, looking more offended by the second as Tim’s confusion mounted. “You- you two- I- *Wait,*” Match’s voice became a hiss, turning to glare at Jason, eyes glowing a bit red. Tim couldn’t help but flinch a bit, not wanting to get another taste of whatever in the hell eye magic Match used to blast fucking laser beams. “You mean to fucking tell me you’ve been banging my little brother for the last two centuries and you haven’t made an honest man out of him yet and put a ring on that finger??”

“You expect me and Kon to walk into a church and not combust on entry?” Jason asked, voice incredulous.

Match paused, eyes returning to normal. “Okay,” Kon’s double nodded, “I’ll admit, thats a good point. Either of you on consecrated ground would probably be mess.”

“We’re also legally dead,” Kon added helpfully.

Tim was going to hit them. He wasn’t sure which one, but he was going to smack at least one of them.

Then, Match pouted. It was very bizarre watching a guy who’d just nearly murdered you pouting, but that’s exactly what Match was doing.

“I’m offended neither of you bothered to say anything to me. I mean, okay, maybe at first I’d get it, but you’ve been going steady for 50 years, do I not have any rights?”

“Match, anytime we meet you’re usually trying to torch down a town for funsies,” Kon snapped.

To this, Match shrugged. “I mean, what else am I suppose to do with humans?”

... Alright then, Tim decided. Match, Kon, and Jason might look human, but they were clearly something else entirely. What exactly they were, Tim wasn’t sure, but he didn’t exactly care right now, as long as he got the others away safely.

          Leaning against the balcony railing of his hotel room, Match let out a sigh as he looked out at the sight that stretched out before him. It was a clear and pristine view of the sunrise as it bled out over the sparkling expanse of sea, reds and oranges and pinks reflected across the crisp blue surface as far as the eye could see. The colors shimmered and shined with each ebb and flow of the waves as they lapped at the warm sandy beach before him. He couldn’t help but close his eyes in this moment and stand completely still as he soaked in those early rays of sunlight on his skin and breathed in deep the salty sea air as it flowed in on a breeze.             Thad hadn’t been exaggerating when he had said that an early morning overlooking the ocean would be absolutely breathtaking. Match was certain he could have stood there forever taking in the sights and the sounds and relishing in the peace of the moment. It was just too bad that he was here enjoying this moment alone. That this nice view and even nicer room was the product of business and not pleasure. If it had been pleasure, he would have had Thad by his side that was for sure.             He opened his eyes and let out another sigh. But it wasn’t. And Thad wasn’t here with him either.             At least he had this view and this nice room, and it was all for himself. Some might call that a good trade off, a nice perk to the job, but Match wasn’t certain of that in the least when it took him so far away from home and from Thad for so long. But he was needed close on hand for this latest mission according to Waller. He had to be here. He was half of their muscle. Their Kryptonian. A passable substitute when you wanted Superman on the team. At least she had sprung for some nice rooms for the Squad to keep them quiet and content before the mission started.             He twisted the gold ring on his finger.             Still this sight would have absolutely been better with Thad here with him. They could have laid out on the beach all day, swam in the ocean, checked out the city and the local cuisine too, and, and, and he was doing it again. He just couldn’t help how easily his thoughts strayed to his husband who was halfway across the world. They’d only been married for a few short months but all he wanted nowadays was just to be with him. To experience life and what may come together. But this job with the Suicide Squad had taken him away from him again and so soon too. He let out a huff and a sigh that made his shoulders sink.             He must have seemed like a goddamn overgrown puppy-dog with the way he was sighing and sulking away while in paradise, but…he just missed him so bad.             Was Thad missing him like he was? Was he alright on his own?             …Of course he was.             This was Thad he was talking about. The same man who had stayed busy in his underground lab for a week to build a fully functional mechanical body for Craydl to pilot along with all sorts of secondary components like weapons and defensive mechanisms and more.             When he had asked him why, Thad responded easily with a nonchalant shrug, ‘Just for fun.’             Match let out a chuckle and shook his head at the memory. Of course, his husband would be more than okay. If he was still up, then he was probably lost in some project right now. Muttering beneath his breath his own thoughts to himself, unaware he was doing it, or talking to Craydl, collaborating and conspiring with the technoplasmic AI on their latest project.             His chest filled with warmth at the thought of him. All he wanted was to hear his heartbeat and its familiar rhythm. He needed that familiar sound he had grown so used to listening to in the dead of night as they slept in their home and in their bed as they laid wound around one another, to settle himself and set his mind at ease.             He just wanted to know that he was alright too.            A little peek wouldn't hurt.             Match closed his eyes and concentrated.

In the comic discord I'm in we've been talking about Kryptonians being more alien-like and having dragon ancestry (inspired by seeing the panels below) so I've been toying with that in my designs of Match by giving him fangs and a forked dragon-like tongue.

For context: Superman is transformed into a Drang because he was thinking of them while he was exposed to Red Kryptonite, but I think Kryptonians having dragon ancestry is cooler sooooo... :3c

I'm thinking about Match's name and how while someone like Kal or Kon giving him a name or helping discover a name he likes would be very cool, I also really like the idea of him owning his name as "Match" and essentially reclaiming by giving it its own meaning or by just by being himself.

He might have been called Match because it's a play on being Kon's clone (his match or copy so to speak) or his equal/better (as in the phrase "meet his match"), but I think Match's character isn't so much bogged down by being a clone or copy of Kon, but instead is more bogged down by finding himself and who he is as an individual.

He doesn't really deal with strict comparisons to Kon, but instead deals with finding himself as an individual, a person with a clear identity, which is why I think it would be more in tune with his character to instead create meaning within his own name. Reclaim it so to speak, so he is not Match as in a 'copy', but Match as in himself. Match as in this spark, this light, this flame of new beginnings.

So he can confidently say who he is. He's Match. Nothing more. Nothing less. No longer attached to old meanings. He is just himself and proudly so.
