happppy valentine’s day.  throwback to this yjh x kdj thing i wrote back in 2019.  thought it was appropriate for today, so i cleaned it up a bit and here it is.

Kim Dokja tips his head up so Yoo Joonghyuk can feel the full force of his incomprehension. “Were you looking for Lee Seolhwa?” he says, smiling mildly.

From behind, it’s not impossible for Dokja to pass as Lee Seolhwa — they both have the same kind of billowing white coat that obscures their frames— but it’d only be at first glance, and from a distance.  They don’t look alike at all.  Anyone that takes a step closer, or looks at him for longer than a second, would be able to correct themselves.

But that’s the only reason he can think of as to why Yoo Joonghyuk would grab him by the shoulders, spin him around, and stare deeply into his eyes while holding his hands like a sentimental lover. 

Yoo Joonghyuk gives Dokja a look.  It’s stupidly attractive, because of course it is, but mostly it looks like he’s going to murder Dokja with his eyes.  “No,” Yoo Joonghyuk says flatly.

“Is that so?” Dokja says, eying their interlinked hands suspiciously.  The idea that Yoo Jonghyuk is going to murder him is refreshingly familiar ground, but contrary to popular belief, he is not actually immortal and would rather not waste a life on something he can avoid if he can just run.  “Then do you need me for something?”

“I need you,” Yoo Joonghyuk says, and then stops, like that’s actually informative or helpful in any way whatsoever.  

“You sound like a romance drama protagonist,” Dokja says dryly.  “You need me for what.”

Yoo Joonghyuk makes a frustrated noise.  “No, I mean - I need you.”

“Yeah, you said already.  I get it, what do you need me for.”

This is apparently the wrong thing to say, because all it does is make Yoo Joonghyuk stare, long enough to make Dokja shift uncomfortably.  It’s not like Kim Dokja is on a schedule or something, but if Yoo Joonghyuk is going to try and kill him, shouldn’t it be a little quicker than this?

“Hey, what is it?” Dokja says.  “Don’t be so uncommunicative, hurry up and tell me what you want, I can’t magically figure it out if you don’t say anything.”

Yoo Joonghyuk sighs.  “I’m in love with you.”

Dokja laughs.   

Yoo Joonghyuk’s expression does not change. 

Dokja stops laughing.
