The acting choices Rhys makes here…
I love that Stede continues to gaze at the red silk he’s placed in Ed’s pocket as he muses on its fineness.
When he states, “You wear fine things…” he raises his eyebrows. Coupled with a slight smile, it becomes an affiliative expression, gaining the trust of the listener. It demonstrates empathy too, and signals a desire for stronger emotional or social bonding.
Then there’s the sudden flick of his eyes upwards to meet Ed’s to deliver the ‘well’, with the stress, importantly, on that word. Because it’s not just about the fine thing itself, but the wellness with which Ed wears it, enabling it to become an even finer thing.
The smile then becomes just a little wider, but not so much that it might signal duplicity or pretence. And there’s a slight lowering of the chin at the end, to emphasise the gentleness of the interaction, whilst continuing to hold Ed’s gaze, reinforcing the sincerity of the words.
Stede’s timbre is significant too. “Look at that!” which proceeds it, is slightly higher-pitched and excitable. But the delivery of “You wear fine things well,” is steady and smooth, and quiet yet powerful, in its honesty and intent.
The entire thing smacks of sincerity, and the delivery demonstrates the emotional truths and kindness behind it. Without Rhys’ nonverbal cues and gestures, the line could so easily have fallen flat, or sounded artificial.
And what’s more, Rhys manages to play the scene in such a way that suggests, without doubt, that Stede has no idea of the beauty and importance of what he is doing.
No wonder Ed is rendered speechless, and his heart can do nothing more than thunk right out of his chest.
It’s so subtle yet powerful, and it’s perfect, and Rhys Darby is a genius.
The Gentleman Pirate, i presume?
Finally got around to doing some OFMD fanart that I’ve been itching to do for ageeees. I’m still getting used to digital painting, but I’m lowkey proud of this :p Edward Teach you’re next
I dreamt that ofmd got picked up for a third season. I've never been so disappointed to wake up in my life.
Leaving these here! ❤️

Proud pirate daddy is watching everything we do! And he absolutely cannot give us any indication of what’s happening right now, but he is doing something! Something is happening!
I'm just as devastated now as the first time we got canceled. I can't adequately put into words what I'm feeling right now, but it's comforting to know I'm not alone. It feels like I've just been told that someone I love has died because we really are grieving. We're grieving the loss of what should have been, of what we were SO FUCKING CLOSE to having.
The last time I got into a new show, it was Vagrant Queen on Syfy. It had been a very long time since I had been into something NEW. Not just new to me, but something that was currently airing. I saw ads for it before the first episode aired and i watched every single new episode the night that it aired. I was so into it. And then it got canceled after the first season on a HUGE cliffhanger. And now it's happened again. I was pissed when Vagrant Queen got cancelled, but it can't BEGIN to touch how devastated I am over OFMD.
I had not written a word of fanfiction in over two years before I entered this fandom, and now I'm excited about writing again. I will always be a member of this fandom and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but at the same time, I can't help but feel like, what's the point of getting into anything new anymore?
Our Flag Means Heartbreak
Listen, DJenkins isn't wrong, it's pretty cool that we even got 2 seasons of such a weird little amazing show.
BUT. I'm seeing various folks trying to give comfort, or explain, or whatever, and I beg of you, NOT YET.
There's such a thing as toxic positivity. People saying, "oh hey, at least you still have fanfic and fanart" and speculating that Taika was bored or Jenkins really shot his whole wad in Season 2 -- if you are trying to comfort folks, that's nice, but don't.
Just don't.
It's a shitty thing to happen to a show that was so new and different and amazing. Good for humanity. Etc.
If you didn't get it, or if you were mad about Izzy, or whatnot, you have had your moment. But don't speculate and don't offer insulting bullshit about what probably happened.
What probably happened is capitalists gonna capitalize, and they didn't see the long term gains on this, or some shit, because queer little shows are queer little shows.
Just let us be angry and sad.
Hey guys !!!!!! I made a playlist !!!!! I have been working on this for a really long time ! At first just for fun but then I realized other people might like it for the season !!! So …..
