I love having new takes on characters! I love being the first to an idea and inviting others to play in the sandbox I've dug with my bare hands.
But.
I hate being the only one running a 40-year-old Ireena because there is no art (yet! I am planning to commission some) of her where she looks older than 30.
I know the canon tragedy is the fact that she is so young and hasn't experienced life. I'm working from an angle where the tragedy is that she's tasted what life has to offer, but whether it's age or Strahd, the clock is ticking for her and she has so much to lose besides her life.
Anyways, I'm prepping Roll20 for the inaugural session of "The Cycle of Fate". Wish me luck!
This is what happens when you’re DM likes when you share ideas about supernatural plants. Here is the actual text message conversation transcribed;
DM : the cousin of the vampire watermelon: lycanthropic pumpkin
Me: I’m curious and slightly worried
DM: I too, am curious and slightly worried because that randomly popped in my head
Me: Is this a pumpkin that takes on a wolf form (it’s still a pumpkin though) on nights of a full moon before it’s picked? Or, spreads transformation curses?
DM: Yes. Both, both is good
Me: Or temporarily transforms folk into animals for x amount of time? I need like a d100 of temporary transformations now
DM: Yes, yes we do. Why am I allowed to be the DM? I don’t think any other DM would have lycanthropic pumpkins
Me: But it makes you fun and unexpected. It’s also kind of my fault.

🍓🍋I was told to make a d20 to match my starbucks order🍓🍋
What color should I ink the numbers?

You’re brave, coming here,
It’s me. The dungeon master.
I’d like you to do something for me.
Go outside. Look around. Enjoy nature for a moment.
Then,
Roll initiative.
Y’ALL THIS WEEK IS GONNA BE MY LAST WEEK OF UNDERGRAD CLASSES EVER
I’M NOT PREPARED AT ALL FOR ANYTHING THAT I HAVE TO TURN IN BUT ITS STILL A DAMN FREEING FEELING
TELL ME MORE ABOUT UR HOMEBREW!! anything goes honestly whatever ur most excited about!! im actually trying the same wild plan of homebrewing a whole ass world for me friends without ever having played dnd before and im LOVING this
Anon, whoever you are, I love you so much and wish you so much luck.
DMing had been one of the best and hardest things I have ever taken on. Mostly because I haven't written since elementary school and the fact I've never actually finished a story. But DnD, when played with people you love becomes such an award you become willing to sell your own soul (which I may or may not have done)
There's so much of my story I want to prattle on about, but most of them are spoilers and my players are avid watchers of this blog (I love you guys).
When I was about 17 or 18 my friend Savanna and I talked about playing d&d and I volunteered to be DM. I was in an academy that taught us to design and build videogames and I had become inspired after playing too much Skyrim and Dragon age to make my own videogame (way out of my league, I might as well have had a dream to land on mars). And so, I already had a two year head start on writing this campaign I just translated what I had written into d&d terms.
I had no materials, no rule book, no character sheets, just a single set of dice, some paper and a dream and the best group of friends I could ask for. Now I know a lot of the rule book by heart, handmade maps and two dozen homebrew creatures.
Sorry, that was a lot about me and not much about my actual homebrew writing. I've had a powerpoint I've been working on for months about all the major races (about 120 slides so far 😬)
But my favorite (that isn't a spoiler) are my Nevran race. Pinterest link here. They are like Tritons (before I knew about Tritons) but their stats are more similar to water genasi.
They come in all kind of colors, all of them have brightly colored skin, waxy black dreaded hair, cat-like eyes, sharp shark teeth, small horns, and frills around their ears. They are very short, usually 4'11" to 5'8" at most and they have a female to male ratio of 15:1
They are very scientific minded, and believe that they are reincarnated when they die back into nevran bodies. They worship the mermaids that swim around their island and go to them for advice.
I based their culture mostly off of mesoamerican culture such as the Aztec and Maya but I also threw in a lot of Polynesian culture.
Thank you again so much for the asks, I enjoy talking a whole lot :)
“I’m insulted.” DM commented flatly as he pretended to look at his nails. “Rosie, I’m hurt. Yer gonna go ta Trust Fund before ya come ta da Navi who’s datin’ Fable’s brother fer da 411 on where ‘e is.”
The Darkloid dramatically turned away from the dash. “I guess I ain’t good ‘nough fer ya ta come ta in dese tryin’ times.” And a fake sniffle to top it off.
