TL;DR Version: The Sourdough King from @BurgerKing is an incredibly messy, monstrous sandwich that doesn’t have much flavor beyond beef, cheese, and onion. Full Review: So impressed was I with the sourdough bun on the Hardee’s Hot Chicken Sandwich that I decided to reconsider eating a Sourdough King from Burger King. The rationale was, “It’s not like Hardee’s has some super secret recipe for sourdough buns so I bet a burger on this is pretty good too.” So I stopped at Burger King on my way home one day this week and picked up a Double Sourdough King with bacon. All I knew going in is what I could see in the picture on the menu: sourdough bun, two quarter pound beef patties, a couple slices of cheese, and some bacon. When I opened the wrapper to unveil this behemoth I was immediately struck by what a mess it was going to make. There was melted cheese and sauce everywhere. Once I cut it in half to photograph it I realized the bottom beef patty was sitting on a bed of something white. More cheese of some other variety? Nope. Onions. Insanely thick sliced onions in no small number. The sauce appeared to be some manner of Thousand Island style sauce, but it was hard to tell because it was so similar in color to the cheese and was overpowered to the point where I second guessed whether it was even there. The first bite was indicative of the entire experience: slightly crunchy (due to the mountain of onions) and no other discernible flavors beyond beef and cheese. This isn’t a terrible sandwich, but it isn’t a good one either. Much better options out there, including the original Whopper. It is huge though, so if you’re particularly hungry this might be a good option for you. As for nutrition, it weighs in at 970 calories, 61g fat, 52g carbs, and 55g protein. The 24g of saturated fat is the biggest health issue, but the lack of flavor is the better reason not to get it. #FastFoodReviews #RealFastFoodie #BurgerKing #SourDoughKing #MonsterBurger #BaconCheeseburger #DoubleBeef #SourdoughBun #FastFoodMacros #iifym
