I've seen this parallel a lot, and I mean, fair.
But I feel like another very important one is this:
(I mean, I know TECHNICALLY Doug is not talking about the lighthouse painting because Stede has it, but it's about... attitudes toward passions)
I just know that Ed and Steve are gonna switch roles this season, Ed is gonna be the one pretending to be badass but kinda fumbling and stede is going to be the one with all the cool moves and who saves the day
I keep thinking about that period between Ed returning to the Revenge after Stede left and Izzy’s provocation. Like surely Izzy brought him some tea after he was untied, so he arrived at the cabin to find a distraught, or a perhaps weirdly mild Ed. Izzy asks what happened as he hands over the teacup, carefully observing him and trying to prepare for whatever reaction.
Did Ed explode on him for selling them out to the British? (Izzy sold Stede out, not Ed. But Ed already saw himself as with Stede) Did he openly blame Izzy to his face? Did he devolve into a calm explanation of what happened before crumbling into tears? Did he start bashing the cabin as he explained, and Izzy looked on trying to understand? Did Ed crumble into Izzy and wept openly on his shoulder as Izzy tried to hug and comfort in his bewilderment?
Did Izzy listen to Ed for hours trying to console him? How many times did Izzy crawl into the blanket fort? Did Ed ask him to help built the blanket fort? Did Ed start workshopping his songs/poetry with him before Izzy desperately suggested Lucius might be of better help? (Here I’m think of Izzy asking if he should get Lucius to take notes after the toe cutting scene) How’s Izzy trying to balance being a first mate to your boss but also his friend/shoulder to cry on/buffer with the world?
Just thinking about the way Ed sometime addresses him, with so much familiarity. ‘Iz, Iz’, ‘Izzy, Izzy, Izzy’. Kills me a little to think of him talking like that while sad or drunk and being vulnerable. Has Izzy answered in comfort in that lovely, soft tone he uses sometimes?
reaping and sowing etc. etc.
Ed normally: I'm the fucking kraken and I'm here to cause murder
