Consider intentions carefully. Karma gives a damn about ego, awards allegiance to none, and its justice is truly blind.
T.F. Hodge, From Within I Rise: Spiritual Triumph Over Death and Conscious Encounters with "The Divine Presence"
*points*
I like the idea of a redemption arc Starscream
*also points at Starscream leaning in full ham of being egotistical, diva, who makes dramatic entrances*
But I also REALLY like this
Bro I love me a delusional asshole. I love it. The main character in your story is fairly intelligent but constantly behaves like a fucking idiot because they're a little egotistical freak who can't stop overestimating just how smart they really are? Sign me the fuck up.
Herman Karlovich in Despair by Nabokov? Rodya Raskolnikov in Crime & Punishment? Cersei Lannister in ASOIAF? Thanquol in the Warhammer Fantasy books? Yes. A thousand times yes.
Give me a little guy who goes through life like "No one understands how hard it is to be such a special genius [50 moronic dipshit decisions later] actually if you think about it, none of this is my fault and everything is going according to plan"
Give me zero self awareness. -10000 accountability, please. Pour that shit straight down my throat with a funnel.
trump: “My plan calls for the creation of a new international oversight body, the Board of Peace…It will be headed by a gentleman known as President Donald J. Trump.”
By a "gentleman known as donald trump" BS you ain't neva been a "gentleman." You scurrilous, burnt orange biscuit looking s.o.b. of a nazi traitor.
Mister Fox:
The absolute arrogance, the self-adulation, the verbal masturbation, the constant pathetic need to demean Biden, Obama and others in office before him and his pitiful ego-stroking... are vomitous, vile and vacuous. Dear God, how I loathe this putrid putz.
Don't feed your ego with my soul.

I HATE the way people describe ego broadly in spirituality and psychology. Yes, ego can make you weak and impulsive, overly defensive or too sensitive. But the definition of ego in the first place seems fairly nebulous, and tends to vary largely from person to person.
Ultimately, if you did not have any ego at all, you wouldn't be able to tell where your body ends and another object begins. You wouldn't be able to have any identity of your own, nor an understanding of 'self'. That's not a bad thing, but it would make function in the world basically impossible. When people talk about ego death on psychedelics, very few seem to remember that it isn't like... a permanent state. You don't kill your ego once and suddenly become enlightened eternally. When you stop being high and are no longer lost in the grand energetic flow of all things, you have to return to your body and regain some amount of ego. Maybe it's changed, softened, or you learned an incredibly important lesson. But you have to return to yourself. We don't have to talk about how most who brag about ego death are doing it solely because it feeds their ego.
Point being, ego is useful. It exists for a reason, it is a necessary part of being conscious and functional as an individual. It can be incredibly negative and damaging if you are too terrified of it being wounded or changing. But you need it to exist in some form. You should learn how to release it, adapt it and soothe it, but appreciate it for everything it does to protect you. It is one of the strongest guard dogs for your mind, body and soul. Looking down on ego is not as enlightened as people seem to think.
Okay one more because this one turned out way better.
