Marseille.
Jos-Henri Ponchin - "Femmes Annamites"

I feel so relieved that the Public law exam is done.
Now moving on with a statistical survey and one last paper in anth!
As a former Art High-school student, my math knowledge is quite embarassing. I feel intimidated by stats and using R. That being said, I am also really enthusiast about being able to use it efficiently to support my research questions and love a challenge.
I feel exited about researching on the topic of nostalgia in anthropology. I would recommend the book “Perdre sa culture” from David Berliner. He first explores the topic of nostaglia and its different kinds (exo nostalgia vs endo nostalgia) to then develop his arguments through two ethnographic fieldworks that are eye opening about how the nostalgia specific to the West is used to conduct Conservation politics around the world (especially by Unesco). I appreciated how much the book is going into the views of all the actors implied in thoses politics lead by the West, from the local habitants to the officials of Unesco working from the the West, both in Cambodgia and Guinea-Conakry.
The book was revealing to me about the ways in which memorisation has developped in the west and impacts the way we tell stories and our perspectives on what “holds” our memories and traditions - which seems to be a materialist one.
Have a lovely week, believe in you !
