Been a lot of Jules-bashing on me feed and as I am rewatching the series I have noticed that the idea of Jules I had in my head does not exactly conform to what we see onscreen. If you took Sea Blobs out entirely, you are left with this idea of her as someone concerned for Rue's health but otherwise tagging her along in a relationship that is (from my archaic Gen-X eyes) unnaturally open, particularly for someone like Rue. I also get the impression the character has adhd, and, added to her age, is wrestling with the intensity of the world rushing in, that her capacity to love is likewise fleeting, flung every which way. In the first two seasons Jules is not a fully formed adult, nor are any of them, and I respect Sam's devotion to detail that he doesn't let them get away with any wiser-than-their-age profundities, but that they all are just caught in a myopic cyclone. We want Jules to do the right thing, and often she doesn't, we want Rue to do the right thing, and she doesn't. Sea Blobs peels back the layers to Jules and shows her vulnerabilities which greatly enhances her character, but season 2 she is having casual sex with Elliot, she is doing beer runs with Rue, and overall lacking in real relationship material. My hope is we encounter a grown-up adult Jules in this season, that sure, probably doesn't have everything sorted in her life, but maybe a stillness to really take in Rue's gaze and heart. I think Rules is endgame. We know Rue isn't the one to steer the ship, so it has to be her.

Said heteronormative ship is toxic, unhealthy, rushed, has no chemistry, does a disservice to both characters including their arcs and development and adds nothing to the story or the plot unless it is forced to with concrete examples such as:

-Lack of trust (overprotectiveness, paranoia about the behavior of the other partner, not letting your partner be able to do anything on it's own, etc...)

-Lack of good or hostile communication (lying most of the time, yelling, interrupting most of the time, not sharing anything, blaming them for anything or contradictory statements being made all the time...)

-Extreme jealousy.

-Emotional dependency which means you rely on your partner to fit all your needs. You have an idealized view/version of that partner and you always need them to reassure you/them, build your self-esteem which means that you are actually also not communicating well or have any sort of real emotional relationship.

-Codependency, you sacrifice your own needs and what you want for others, often becoming what they want you or need you to be.

-Forgotten or lost relationships, not spending time with your friends or your family anymore.

-Relationship only work through physical or sexual interactions which leads to not sharing any emotions or having any emotional support in the relationship.

-No interests together whatsoever.

-Nothing gets resolved and you are always ignoring or forgetting the problem.
