as we approach sunday, i’m doing my yearly rewatch of season one (makes me sick w nostalgia btw) and i just. ignoring season two and the obvious it’s just almost funny because you can so tell these two are biking head on into disaster. like there’s no way this ends right. the repeated theme of “you could never do anything to make me hate you” only to end with jules quite literally leaving rue to go chase a lifestyle and a dream (which is exactly what ali said she was going to do.) obviously neither of them were perfect (they’re teen girls) and they each had their own issues and traumas that sort of got dumped in the lap of the other but like. you could just tell whatever direction they were heading in, it was going to hit a wall. it’s just a shame that hitting that wall in season two included a man despite jules denouncing men several times in her special episode. but in season one their time spent and shared as best friends to eventually girlfriends to completely intertwined was one big ticking time bomb but GOD did i love watching them together.
