“You may be the head of the pack now but you should be a father first!” you shouted. He had to leave again, he was never around anymore and whenever he was it was fight after fight. It was always the same thing over and over again, he would come back late at night and leave before dawn. “They’re toddlers now Chanyeol! They’re big enough to wander around on their own now, I can’t do this by myself anymore!”
“I don’t have time to deal with your outbursts Y/n!” he growled running his hands through his hair in exasperation, “The festival of leaves is coming up quickly. I have so much pressure on me to make new alliances and maintain old ones... but you wouldn’t understand. I have to go.”
You heard his heavy footsteps followed by the slamming door and you winced as the cries from the nursery started almost immediately. It was almost dawn and in the moment you got so caught up in the fighting that you forgot your kids were asleep in the other room. Quickly, you rushed into the nursery gathering Daewon in your arms and trying to calm him down before he woke up Miso. You only let a few tears roll down your cheek once you made sure they were both asleep and you closed the door behind you. Collapsing back onto the hallways floor you let yourself sob once again, you felt broken. It felt like your mate was disappearing out of your life, you never saw him anymore without yelling, it felt like he wasn’t even your mate anymore. All the responsibility of raising the pups had fallen onto your shoulders and you had no idea what you were doing, you didn’t grow up in the pack and you were so scared of ruining the future of your two pups you desperately needed help. You tried your best to understand his responsibilities but he’s always out in a meeting, planning something for the future of the pack but what about the future of your family? You were starting to wonder if your pups would grow up knowing they have a father.
That night you felt the bed dip beside you and his arm snake around your waist assuming you were asleep. You let him pull you close to him as he pressed a kiss to the back of your neck before his breathing slowed and he fell asleep. But by morning he was gone again and the bed was cold.
----
Slowly you began packing your things, not that he would notice. On the fifth day of not having seen or spoken to him other than the rumpled sheets you saw in the morning you packed your things, took the two pups and left. With tears in your eyes you climbed onto the wagon beside your mom with Miso on your lap, she gave your shoulder a comforting squeeze before setting off.
“You’re welcome to stay as long as you want honey,” she said as you headed towards her cottage on the other side of the village, “I know it hasn’t been long since we’ve known eachother but I want you to know I’ll always be there for you, alright?”
“Thanks mom,” you sighed, leaning your head onto her shoulder, “I’m really glad I found you again and I think you’re going to be an amazing grandma.”
“I’m glad I found you again too,” she said with a chuckle, “And I promise I’ll do my best as a grandma even if I wasn’t a very good mom.”
The both of you laughed at that and before you knew it you were at her cottage and letting Daewon and Miso run around in the yard as you unloaded your things. Your mom’s cottage was about an hour walk away from the village in a little meadow where she decided to fix it up after she found it abandoned. Your mother wasn’t very social and never really spent much time with the pack so there were only a few wolves who knew she lived out here even though she was part of the pack. It was exactly what you needed right now, time away from everything, a chance to relax and take care of your pups.
“You didn’t need to clean out your studio for us,” you whined. The cottage only had three rooms separate from the kitchen and living space, one of which you mom was using as an art studio.
“Nonsense,” she told you, setting down the final box, “We couldn’t have all three of you staying in one room now could we? And besides, I’ve been meaning to turn the shed into my studio since I first moved in and there’s way more space.”
“Well at least let me make dinner tonight.”
“Fine, just don’t burn the house down,” she agreed with a smile, “Now are you sure you don’t need any help unpacking?”
You smiled and squeezed her hand, “I don’t, I promise.”
“Okay, now come on you two fearsome wolves,” she said, throwing Daewon over her shoulder with a giggle, “let’s go get a snack.”
You smiled to yourself as you watched the three of them tumble into the kitchen, leaving you to unpack the rest of their clothing into a set of drawers your mom had put in the twin’s room. Going through their clothes and finding some things they’ve grown out of brought back memories from when all of you were still a happy family, you quickly pushed them to the back of the drawer and finished putting the rest of your things. Now you would make this your home and you were going to do all you could to make sure your pups grow up happy and loved in a family.
When the twins had finally fallen asleep later that night you joined your mom at the kitchen table with a cup of tea.
“I know there’s a lot going on in your life, and you haven't exactly told me why you decided to move out but I can assume a little bit. I said you can stay as long as you want and you can because you’re my daughter but my only request is that when you feel comfortable you’ll talk to me about it, okay?” Your mom asked.
“I will, I promise,” you told her.
“Now off to bed with you too, you’ve had a long day.”
You nodded and hugged your mom quickly before heading to the room which was now yours. Before you left you told Jongin and his mate so they wouldn’t worry but they swore they wouldn’t tell anyone and you promised to visit them once and awhile. Nobody else knew and that’s how you wanted it, at least for a little while.
----
You settled in quickly to life at the cottage for the first week, when the weather was nice you spent most of the days outside playing in the meadow and gardening. The pups loved running around in the woods around the cottage and even started helping your mom with some of her artwork though it never ended without paint on everybody. When the weather was poor you stayed inside baking and reading books, you and your mom did the best you could teaching the pups about being wolves even though neither of you had been part of a pack for long. Finally you were ready and told your mom about everything that had happened between you and Chanyeol.
“-and there’s one more thing… I’m pregnant again.”
She gasped, “Oh sweetie how long have you known?”
“For about a month, I was feeling sick so a friend agreed to watch the twins when I went to visit Kyungsoo and see what was wrong, that’s when he told me I was pregnant.”
“Does Chanyeol know?” she asked, “I swear if he knew and still ignored you like that-”
“No he doesn’t,” you cut her off “I don’t want Chanyeol to find out and I’ve been thinking I want to move back to the other side of the lake but I don't want to be a burden…. It’s almost the festival again anyways”
There was a pause.
She hugged you tightly, “I’m sure it’ll all be fine darling, don’t make any rash decisions you have a lot of things to consider especially with another pup on the way. He’s your mate after all, it’s bound to work out eventually and I’ll support you either way.”
“Thanks mom,” you sighed into her shoulder, “I just don’t know how I should feel.”
“He has new responsibilities as well and you being gone is probably making him even more stressed,” she told you, “Don’t worry yourself more over another kid, it’s never easy when you’re a new parent. You know how bad I was with you,” she chuckled, “But from what I’ve seen you’re already doing amazing with the twins. Eventually you need to talk to Chanyeol but until you’re ready you can stay here as long as you want.”
You smiled, “Thanks mom, I love you.”
----
You stayed with your mom for a few more weeks in the cottage but even in those few weeks you could already see the twins growing more and more. Chanyeol hadn’t found where you were yet but you’d be surprised if he even noticed you were gone in the first place. No matter how much you tried to think it over again and again your worries never disappeared and eventually you agreed to meet up with Jongin’s mate Hyeri for tea. The two of you sat to chat in the garden while the twin’s napped inside.
“It’s so great to see you again Y/n,” she gushed, “It hasn’t been the same without you.”
You smiled and sighed, “I’ve really missed you and everyone else too but right now I need some time away.”
“Actually there's a reason I wanted to meet with you….” she said nervously, “I’m pregnant.”
“Really!” you exclaimed, “How far along are you? Does Jongin know?”
“It’s been a few months,” She said, “I told him as soon as I found out, he really wanted to come with me but he was too busy with the council.”
You gave her a sad smile, “I’m really happy for you two! I think you’re going to be amazing parents.”
“From what I’ve seen so far, you’re an amazing mom too.”
“Actually,” you sighed, “I’m pregnant too and Chanyeol doesn’t know.”
She let out a deep sigh of relief and you gave her a quizzical look. Why was she so relieved by the news you were expecting?
She let out a nervous chuckle, “I thought you looked rounder than before and I didn’t know if it was just the stress or…..”
“Is it really that noticeable?” you asked. First it was your mom and now Hyeri, thinking about it you weren’t really sure how far along you were.
“Your belly is really starting to show,” she told you with a smile, “It’s weird to think that I’ll look like that soon too. And no wonder Chanyeol looks so terrible these days. He’s running himself ragged, they say mates know, even if they don’t actually know, something inside them does. Before we knew Jongin acted like he had ants in his pants all the time……”
As she continued to talk your mind spun with all the information she was sharing with you and you felt yourself starting to worry.
“-You really need to talk to him Y/n, before he goes insane from worry. We’ve been doing our best to make sure he eats and sleeps but there’s not much more we can do. Missing you is killing him.”
She left after you talked for a little while longer but you knew you weren’t paying enough attention as your mind was elsewhere.
----
All night you stayed up thinking and by morning you had decided you needed to go back and see him.
----
You stayed up far past sunset waiting for him and when he finally got home you heard him pause before you heard him bound through the house, burst through the door and take you up in his arms.
“Y/n!” he exclaimed burying his face into your neck, I’m so glad you’re finally back. Where are the pups?”
You grabbed his arm as he tried to leave and pulled him back, “Chanyeol wait,” he turned back to you confused, “They’re not here, it’s just me, we need to talk.”
“Why do we need to talk?” he snarled suddenly, “you took our pups and disappeared without a word for almost a month and we need to talk?”
“I need to explain some things before I decide if I’m going to stay or not…” you said gently, “I took the kids with me when I left because I couldn’t leave them here. You’re never around and the pups need a father, someone to take care of them. I also felt abandoned, I’m your mate Chanyeol, I love you but you still left every day. If we’re going to stay you need to be a part of the family, I will try to change too and understand everything you’re going through but you need to try and understand what I’m going through as well.”
He took your hand in his, eyes welling with tears, “I will do my best Y/n I promise, just don’t leave again and break my heart. You and the pups have been all I can think about and I’m so, so sorry. I love you.”
Everything felt right again when you wrapped your arms around him, “I love you too, but there’s one more thing I have to tell you.”
He looked at you with concern leaning back a bit, you took a deep breath, “I’m pregnant again.”
“Really?”
You nodded.
“Really really?”
You nodded again.
“Oh Y/n, I’m so happy!”
----
Again you were a big happy family and a few months later you were an even bigger happy family. And you knew there was nothing more you could ask for.
