Steel. Is mostly Iron.

It’s an Iron Alloy.

And Iron is FAR from the softest metal.

If the explosive could destroy iron, it can most likely destroy other things too.* Meaning that it’s not a one specific use explosive. Maybe marketed as one. But not in actuality.

Another fact is that most explosives out there are probably already going to work on construction metals much stronger than iron, such as aforementioned steel, meaning they would work against iron as well. Getting a specific explosion shaped precisely and at the proper strength based on what material/explosive you’re working with is a much better way forward.

No one is going to make an explosive dedicated solely to blasting small diameter holes through 5cm thick plates of pure Iron.

*I actually went and looked up some things. Base steel, before hardening, is actually softer than pure iron based on the mohs scale. It is harder after working/whatever that particular alloy blend needs. Metals softer than iron include: bronze, brass, aluminum, lead, copper, gold, and silver. If this explosive worked on iron, it could work on all of those as well as non-finished steel. There are also other factors you could base it on, but that requires digging out my engineering textbooks which i do not want to do right now.

** i did all estimates based on the fact that my thumb joint is almost exactly 1″ or 2.5cm long***, and used nygma’s thumb joint as a similar measure, even though he’s probably at least a foot taller than me and that would not be accurate

***i estimated the dimensions by eyeballing in inches while the plate is in perspective, then converted the dimensions to cm, calculated total mass w cm cubed and grams, then converted back to pounds. I understand what imperial units mean, but math is so much easier in metric

alright i dont know what the hell is going on around here but last week as i was watching videos zoning out and playing vidya, i heard my phone go off with a siren alarm sound (for ya little enthusiasts, its a kockum sonics delta 6) and i was panicking cause i thought it was outside until i looked at my phone and saw a notification of swissalert (sort of a presidential alert thing here). it was a red alert* for a fire with risk of explosion in a town about a few miles away.

what went up in flames was an agricultural building storing ammonium nitrate (industrial fertilizer, also highly explosive and what went up in beirut last year btw). they were able to cool it down though and no one was harmed, nothing exploded as well.

now i received a yellow alert* for an oopsie daisy aka an accidental siren alarm being set off in a town close to where one of my cousins resides at. he texted me and asked if they set off the alarms here as well because due to how cities here are built, reverb capabilities are intense. i sent him the screenshot of the alert and all is well now, we had a little meme moment about it and thats it.
