So I stumbled upon this gem in a local store and just had to get it. I was very happy to find it new and sealed, in mint condition, right up from 2007.
Sorry for some Greek on the boxes, it is a European release, so that's that.

The Daily Horror Grindhouse: I Hate You (dir by Nick Oddo)
“Murder is fun and doesn’t cost a thing!” So says aging stand up comedian Norman (Marvin W. Schwartz). Though we don’t learn much about Norman’s background, it’s obvious that he’s been pursuing his career for a while and he has yet to achieve much in the way of success. With his dark suit, gray hair, and sarcastic delivery, he really does seem like he should be working in a cheap casino or a…
I’m always struck by the language some people use to describe investor-owned business. Here’s an example from the piece I cited in my previous post on “T Corporations”:
But, at the core of cooperatives is a very simple legal concept that turns the conventional business structure on its head. In a cooperative, money doesn’t buy votes in board elections and money doesn’t buy future profits. Rather, each member of the cooperative gets a vote and earns money based on the efforts they contribute. There is no single individual or group driving the company for their own profit. Many of the incentives for exploitation are simply absent in cooperatives. (emphasis added)
This is an otherwise balanced piece about the possibilities for using the cooperative business model to organize “sharing economy” activities. There are so many businesses in the economy, most that are investor owned, and I just don’t think of most of them as being “exploitive.” Two times a week, for example, I take my son and our Little League baseball team to MadCity Labs to hit baseballs. The owner of this investor-owned business has built two indoor hitting cages in a corner of his warehouse where he has some free space. Sure, he’s doing this in part because he wants publicity and goodwill from the community, but I think he’s also doing it because he’s a good person. From what I can tell about how he runs his business, he doesn’t exploit his workers or customers. It seems a mistake to demonize investor ownership if that means alienation of the many millions of small and medium sized business owners (and their investors) who provide us the goods and services we use everyday.
Nevertheless, definitely there are a large number of people who are highly skeptical and suspicious of the motives held by investor owners. It’s easy to explain this as being the consequence of bank failures and bailouts, but I think there is something more fundamental at work. We normally don’t see truly awful behavior by cooperative and non-profit leaders, and perhaps this is because these organizational models constrain what people can earn. Nobody can get rich as the owner of a cooperative or a non-profit. In contrast, investor ownership of a business facilities extreme concentration of earnings potential in the hands of individuals, and this in turn can lead otherwise reasonable people to take unconscionable actions. Possibly there’s something to this…
However, we should not lose sight of the power that investor ownership provides as an engine for economic growth and consequent opportunities for human flourishing. Airplanes can cause extreme harm, but I think most of us want to travel, and we choose to live with the risks and take appropriate measures to control them. Investor ownership, capitalism if you like, is responsible for tremendous increases in the opportunities that we all have to lead fulfilling lives, but there is no doubt that it needs controlling. Based on my own personal and professional experiences, I believe that cooperatives can play a much larger role in controlling corporate and market abuses. But demonizing “investor ownership” as inherently exploitive only serves to alienate large communities of well-intentioned business leaders, entrepreneurs, and average citizens who intuitively understand that most investor owned businesses are benign.
